Citizen Science OpportunitiesLearn more about the wildlife on your land through your own data collection! DMAP provides the tools you need to collect biological and observational data, helping you build your own long-term data set.

DMAP Workshops

Spring and summer DMAP workshops are offered annually at no charge to cooperators at all levels of DMAP. Workshops are typically one-day and center on deer biology or wildlife habitat, emphasizing actions that landowners can take to get involved. With a variety of topics and hands-on activities offered every year, both new and veteran DMAP cooperators will learn more about deer and habitat management while networking with other landowners. Cooperators can also compare notes during property tours of DMAP-enrolled lands during summer workshops.

Group CooperativesGroup cooperatives offer landowners the opportunity to network with their neighbors to support habitat and deer herd management over much larger areas through DMAP. Properties that are within half a mile of one another may be enrolled under the same DMAP profile, allowing cooperators to share resources and potentially enroll at a higher level of DMAP than they would be able to individually. If you are interested in joining or forming a group cooperative, you are encouraged to reach out to your neighbors and apply with them through MyDMAP, or contact your local DNR biologist, who may be able to put you in touch with nearby DMAP landowners.

DMAP on Public LandsAny federal, state, county, or municipal land open to the public for deer hunting may enroll in DMAP at no cost, or may join as part of a group cooperative with neighboring private lands. Benefits of enrolling public property in DMAP include:

- Addressing deer management concerns to reach habitat objectives

- Promoting wildlife habitat projects on public properties

- Providing deer hunting opportunities

To apply, the agency or municipality with property management authority should complete the online DMAP application and designate an individual as the authorized representative for the enrolled property.

“DMAP has provided 365 days of herd management knowledge. Our feeling has been to be proactive not reactive, and DMAP through its resources and workshops has been very helpful in gaining knowledge with Department staff, to install practices in improving herd health and habitat improvement for all wildlife.”

- DMAP cooperator, Winnebago County

Hunter ObservationsObservations of wildlife can provide information on year-round wildlife distribution and response to habitat on your property.

Harvest Data CollectionHarvest location, sex, weight, age, lactation status and antler measurements can reveal the health of deer using your land.

Jaw CollectionJaws are used to age deer and contribute to statewide population monitoring and related deer management decisions.

Tissue SamplingSubmitting a tissue sample to test for chronic wasting disease helps screen for infected venison and aids in state CWD monitoring efforts.
