UPCOMING GAMES
BACK-TO-BACK-TO-BACKWisconsin recorded its 30th win of the season against Green Bay on April 16, marking the third time in the past three seasons UW has posted 30+ wins. It is the first time in school history the Badgers have recorded three consecutive 30 win seasons.
HOME WRECKERSThe Badgers’ 5-2 defeat of Nebraska over the weekend marked just the third home loss for the Huskers in the past two seasons, with two-of-the-three losses coming at the hands of the Badgers.
HOME-SWEET-HOMEThe Badgers’ April 16 home start was the latest home opener in school history. During the 2001 season, UW opened its season on April 13, while in 2003 the home opener was held on April 11.
UW’s 37-game road swing was the second longest in school history. In 2001 UW played its first 38 games away from Madison.
B1G ROAD WINSWisconsin’s seven Big Ten road wins are tied for second-most league road victories in program history. In 2005, eight of the Badgers’ 11 league wins were on the road, while in 1999 they posted seven league victories on the road.
BLACKSHEAR HITTING BOMBSA game-winning home run against Nebraska moved Shannel Blackshear just one home run away from tying the UW career home run mark. Blackshear’s 29 career homers rank second, while Katie Hnatyk owns the record with 30.
REACHING BASEKendall Grimm’s reached base streak came to an end against Green Bay on April 16. The senior reached base successfully in 24-consecutive games from March 1-April 14, the second longest streak in UW record books. Joey Daniels holds the school record with 25 set from May 5, 2007 to Feb. 16, 2008.
WISCONSIN OPENS SEASON WITH PROGRAM-BEST STARTUW’s win over Iowa on March 29 was its 24th of the season, marking the program’s best record after 30 games. Twice -- in 2000 and 2002 -- Wisconsin started its season with a 20-10 record.
WISCONSIN WINNING STREAKWisconsin posted a school record 13-straight victories with a win over Illinois on March 23. UW’s winning streak started with an 11-4 win over CSU-Bakersfield on March 2 and ended with a 2-1, nine inning, loss at Iowa March 29.
BADGERS ONE OF BEST AWAY FROM HOMEIn the third release of the RPI on April 15, the Badgers checked in at No. 25 after. At the time of the release, UW was one of 11 teams to not have played in a home game and the only team in the Top-30 without a home game.
NEUTRAL SITE RECORDWith its 9-0 win over Eastern Michigan on March 16, UW recorded its 19th neutral site win of the season, setting a school record for most neutral site wins in a season. The previous record of 18 was set in 2001.
LEAGUE LEADERSThe Badgers rank second in the Big Ten (as of April 17) with a team ERA of 1.85 and batting average of .316. UW’s slugging percentage (.457), on base percentage (.393), hits (334) and stolen bases (77) are all third-best.
Mary Massei ranks second with 57 hits and three triples, while Whitney Massey’s 15 doubles are the most in the league.
NATIONAL NOISEThe sixth release of the NCAA Division I softball statistics on April 15 saw the Badgers ranked in the top 50 in four individual and four team categories. UW ranks ninth with 2.05 stolen bases per game and 17th with a 1.57 team ERA. Its .784 winning percentage is 19th and batting average (.315) is 24th.
Whitney Massey’s with 0.38 doubles per game are 12th, Mary Massei’s .430 batting average is 30th and her three triples ranked 40th. Cassandra Darrah’s 17 victories are 28th, while her 5.0 shutouts rank 32nd.
BADGERS IN THE POLLSThe Badgers’ hot start drew the attention of coaches and media in the April 1 national polls. For the first time since 2002, Wisconsin was ranked in the national polls. The Badgers were ranked No. 25 in the April 1 edition of the USA Today/NFCA Division I softball poll. After receiving votes in the previous three ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Polls, UW made its program debut in the poll at No. 23.
Wisconsin was last ranked in a national poll during the 2002 season, checking in at No. 25 in the USA Today/NFCA rankings on March 21. The Badgers’ highest ranking came in the 2001 season when they were ranked No. 21 three times.
Following its series loss at Minnesota, the Badgers dropped out of both April 8 polls, receiving 16 votes in the NFCA poll and 19 in the USA Softball poll. This week, UW received seven votes in the USA Softball poll and 15 in the NFCA poll.
