1. General DescriptionThis Manual describes the symbols and abbreviations usedin electrical wiring diagrams (schematics). These symbolsand abbreviations are used to indicate connectorconfiguration, terminal number, male and femaleconnections, wire color coding, and other important distinc-tions.CAUTION:I Unauthorized changes in electrical wiring configura-tion together with the connecting of unauthorizedequipment to the basic wiring configuration (har-nesses) are a primary cause of vehicle fires. Under nocircumstances should additional electrical equipmentbe connected to the harnesses. Neither should someother piece of electrical equipment be used as thepower supply. Use only the specified terminals whenmaking connections.I Note the specified terminal maximum capacity.Under no circumstances should this capacity beexceeded.1. Viewing the connectorConnector terminal positions are always shown from theharness side. Determine the viewing direction as it isshown in the wiring diagram.
2. Connector indicationsI Female connectors are shown as a box constructed ofa single continuous line. Male connectors are shown as abox constructed of a continuous double line.I Connector boxes are divided into smaller boxes. Thenumber of smaller boxes corresponds to the number ofconnector terminals. The numerical characters inside thesmaller boxes indicate terminal position.I A small projection at the top of the connector box indi-cates that the connector is equipped with a lock.

4. Switch and relay indicationsAll switches and relays shown in the diagram are in theOFF position (no current flow).I N.O = Normally open (Contacts separated with no cur-rent flow)
I N.C = Normally close (Contacts closed with no currentflow)
5. Ground indicationsGround indications are as shown in the figure. Groundinstallation positions are shown in a separate diagram.

7. Shielded wire indicationSome electronic control equipment wiring is shielded toprevent harmful stray radio wave interference. Shieldedwire is indicated by a broken line in the diagram. Refer tothe figure.
Shielded wire consists of vinyl-covered electric wire sur-rounded by metallic material. The metallic material isgrounded to prevent static electricity build-up.

9. System wiring diagram
A: RELAYA symbol used to indicate a relay.
B: WIRING CONNECTIONFor easy viewing, the diagrams are enlarged. When asingle diagram requires multiple pages, numbers in circles(Ex: q1 - q1 ) are shown at the page borders to indicatediagram continuity.
C: FUSE No. & RATINGThe “FUSE No. & RATING corresponds with that used inthe fuse box (main fuse box, fuse and joint box).

D: CONNECTORI Each connector is indicated by a symbol.I Each terminal number is indicated in the correspondingwiring diagram in an abbreviated form.I For example, terminal number “C2” refers to No. 2 ter-minal of connector (C: F41) shown in the connector sketch.
E: BRANCHING DESTINATIONSPower supply and signal-line branching destinations forother systems are shown.Refer to the circuit route during inspection.
F: CONNECTOR SKETCHI Each connector sketch clearly identifies the shape andcolor of a connector as well as terminal locations. Non-col-ored connectors are indicated in natural color.I When more than two types of connector number areindicated in a connector sketch, it means that the sametype connectors are used.
G: GROUNDEach grounding point can be located easily by referring tothe corresponding wiring harness.
H: DIODEA symbol is used to indicate a diode.
I: WIRE TRACING ON EXTENDED WIRINGDIAGRAMSFor a wiring diagram extending over at least two pages, asymbol (consisting of the same characters with arrows),facilitates wire tracing from one page to the next.A+, A, B +, B

K: POWER SUPPLY ROUTINGA symbol is used to indicate the power supply in each wir-ing diagram.“MB-5”, ‘MB-6”, etc., which are used as power supply sym-bols throughout the text, correspond with those shown inthe POWER SUPPLY ROUTING in the wiring diagram.Accordingly, using the POWER SUPPLY ROUTING andwiring diagrams permits service personnel to understandthe entire electrical arrangement of a system.
L: SYMBOLS AND ABBREVIATIONSA number of symbols and abbreviations are used in eachwiring diagram to easily identify parts or circuits.
M: CONNECTOR MARKINGSIndividual connector symbols make it easy to determinewhether a connector is male or female.
