As I write this, I look back on all of the exciting things that have taken place in our community over the past few years.

Thanks to your passage of a referendum request, the largest capital projects in the history of the Park District are nearing completion. While it hasn’t been easy, the patience of our patrons and the diligence of our staff has eased the transition.

I can’t begin to tell you how many hours our supervisory staff and executive director have spent on finding alternate sites as The Johnston Recreation Center has been unavailable. Although space for some programs was easier to provide than for others, workable solutions were found for all.

I have been a member of this Board for over 20 years and I still don’t know where everyone is located! Thank you to Carrie, Sandy, Becca, Chris, Liz and Nicole for your efforts. A huge thank you to Josh who coordinated all of the moves so that everything got to where it was supposed to go in time for the start of programming. And thanks to Joe and his parks department for carrying out the move.

Having recently toured the shell of the JRC, I think you will be amazed at the improvements and modernization that is taking place. I can’t wait until it is open for all to see.

In a recap of the year, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the other activity going on in town that affects us all. Moving here over 45 years ago, I served on the Village’s Plan Commission and subsequently, the Village Board. During that period, we approved the Old Town District with grand plans to make it the next Long Grove. That plan languished until the Mayor and present Village Board concentrated their efforts to make Old Town the true center of the community.

With the addition of the grand piazza and restaurants, that area is finally coming into its own. Visits to the Museum and Old Town Park are increasing. The annual lighting of the tree and the park has become a major event looked forward to by young and old. It has become an example of what can be accomplished by two governmental units working together toward a common goal.

On behalf of my fellow commissioners, executive director and staff, I wish all of you the happiest holiday season imaginable. And I look forward to seeing you all at the lighting ceremony 6:30 p.m., November 30.

Referendum 2016 UpdateThe Bloomingdale Park District continues to actively plan the capital projects identified by the community as needing repair and/or improvement based upon the successful referendum in November 2016.

Updates on the projects and associated work schedules are as follows:

Johnston Recreation Center Renovating the Johnston Recreation Center to include committed space for active older adult programming, improved early childhood/preschool space, and enhanced security throughout began May 2018 with a targeted completion date of Fall 2019.

• The enhancements to the building include:

o Secure preschool wing on upper level

o Programing space for seniors/active adults

o Improved registration/front desk access

o Interactive play addition for preschool, rental use and birthday parties

o Fitness room and fitness equipment

o Multi-purpose/arts and crafts/kindergarten room(s)

o Multi-purpose room for 125+ people with adjacent covered patio

o Updated teaching/concessions kitchen

o Gymnastic Junior Gym improvements

o Gymnastics ventilation improvements

o Improved gymnastics lobby/viewing area

o Restroom in gymnastics area

Referendum 2016 UpdateThe Oasis Water Park Updating and/or improving some recreation features at The Oasis Water Park and creation of more deck shade and deck space began Fall of 2018 with a targeted completion date of Summer 2019.

The updates/improvements to The Oasis include:

• Renovated play structure in Otter Island

o New slide with run out

o New play structure roof

o New pools and falls

o New watergun

o New pipe falls

o New spinning tray

o Incorporation of theme elements

• Interior fence rope and netting replacement

• New soft play animals play features

• Refinish paint on existing leisure pool play features

• New and/or additional cantilever shade structures

• New and/or additional seating area shade structures

• New trash and recycling bins

• New bike rack

• Aquatic-themed concrete stamps at bathhouse entry

• New public benches and picnic tables

Springfield Park Ballfield Complex The fields were re-engineered to help prevent widespread flooding of fields and nearby paths in addition to the installation of new batting cages, fencing and backstops, concrete walkways, shaded dugouts with windscreens, updated lighting, entrance gate and new basketball court and standards.

The project was completed and celebrated May 6, 2018 with a ribbon-cutting held on Bloomingdale Baseball & Softball Association’s Opening Day.

Springfield Park Wetlands Restoring the shorelines of the wetlands to address non-native, invasive species and improve stormwater management continues to progress according to plan.

• The project includes the chemical and mechanical removal of invasive, non-native species such as cat tails, Phragmites, etc., followed by the establishment of native wetlands and upland species.

• These processes will be repeated for two to three years until the wetlands are properly restored and the ongoing stewardship begins.

Bloomingdale Park District Museum This renovated historic facility, geared for formal gatherings and business meetings, adds a touch of class to any party. One room will be available at limited times, able to accommodate groups of up to 50. A kitchenette with a refrigerator and sink is available. Alcohol is permitted with proper permit. Additional fees may apply.

Westfi eld GymnasiumWestfi eld Gym is the perfect gymnasium for all your sporting event needs. It features two basketball courts and a walking track and is part of Westfi eld Middle School, 149 Fairfi eld Way. The gym is adjacent to Circle Park, the Homola Picnic Shelter, The Oasis Water Park and the Johnston Recreation Center.

Parks The Bloomingdale Park District offers 13 parks for rental. From the fountains at Old Town Park to the climbing rock at Lakeview Park, each and every park offers something unique. Amenities include gazebos, walking paths, playgrounds, tot lots, tennis and basketball courts, football and soccer fi elds, baseball and softball diamonds, sledding hills, fi shing, roller hockey arena and more.

The Oasis Water ParkThe Oasis Water Park is available for summertime rental for private groups Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. All rentals include use of the concession tables and deck space. Catering options are available. All attractions are available for rentals on their own (except Pineapple Plunge drop slide), or may be combined as a package.

Baseball FieldsThe Park District has 14 fi elds available for rental. Springfi eld Park offers four fi elds, Circle Park two fi elds, Lakeview Park two fi elds, Stratford Park two fi elds, Tompkins Park two fi elds, Indian Lakes Park one fi eld and Seasons Four Park one fi eld. A deposit is required for rental. Rates are $35/hour for residents and $45/hour for non-residents. Lights are an additional $28/hour.

Soccer FieldsSpringfi eld Park offers nine soccer fi elds for rental. A $500 deposit is required for rental. Rates are $35/hour for residents and $45/hour for non-residents. Lights are an additional $28/hour.

Springfi eld Park Pavilion This 40’ hexagon pavilion is located behind the basketball courts near the wetlands at Springfi eld Park. Picnic tables are permanently available with the shelter.

Homola Picnic Shelter This pavilion is located adjacent to the roller hockey rink and basketball courts in Circle Park. The building consists of a large picnic shelter/patio area, and men’s and women’s restrooms. It also is adjacent to Westfi eld Gymnasium, The Oasis Water Park and the Johnston Recreation Center.

Old Town Pavilion The Old Town Pavilion is located in Old Town Park in Bloomingdale’s Old Towne. The quaintness of Old Town Park with its formal fountains makes the pavilion an ideal facility for weddings and large group outings. The area is host to the highly-popular Summer Concert Series as well as December’s Annual Festival of Lights. The park offers 1.5 acres of space, two fountains, a gazebo and a concert stage.

PRESCHOOL 2019-20The 2019-20 school-year will mark the inaugural year in the renovated Johnston Recreation Center preschool classrooms. The Park District is excited to provide our youngest residents with a state-of-the-art facility that promotes a safe positive learning environment.

Our curriculum encourages the development of a well-balanced child. We offer a comprehensive readiness-for-school program addressing physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs. Our goal is to creatively and effectively teach students socialization, fine and gross motor skills, and basic academics including language arts, math, science and art. **Blended Preschool-District 13 In cooperation with Bloomingdale School District 13, the Bloomingdale Park District is excited to offer resident students a blended preschool option. This program is for students with and without disabilities. Blended Preschool is housed at Erickson Elementary School and will follow the State of Illinois Early Learning Standards featuring “Creative Curriculum.” Students are taught by teachers who hold Illinois State Board of Education certifications in early childhood education as well as special education certification. Students enrolled in this program follow the District 13 school calendar and abide by District 13 guidelines, procedures and policies.

Busy Bees provides endless opportunities for 3-year-olds through kindergarten on days off of school. Our experienced staff provides a fun, safe and caring environment. Each day offers a variety of structured and relaxed activities for your child to enjoy such as games, sports, arts and crafts, indoor and outdoor playtime, cooking, trips, special events and a lot more. We offer days off of school activities for all Once Upon a Time Preschool and District 13 days off of school (excluding major holidays). Extended early morning and evening hours are available.

Skating for Beginners Skating for Beginners is a 35-minute class taught by instructors from the Stake Room at Stratford Square Mall. Students learn how to skate on a synthetic rink. Football All-Stars Players are introduced to stance, receiving, rushing, blocking and defense. Each week ends with a scrimmage encouraging teamwork and sportsmanship. Players always get to play either receiver or running back each week. Games focus on fundamentals and field concepts, as well as positions and mechanics. No equipment is necessary!



Baseball Clinic 101 This baseball class gives players an introduction to baseball. Players work on technique and enhancing form in this comprehensive skills clinic. This program teaches throwing mechanics as well as batting stance, bat positioning and speed, using both live pitching and hitting off the tee. Players learn various positions in the field through game play and basic in-game strategy. Players should bring their own gloves, and be ready for a fun, fast-paced learning environment.



VTBT Athletes experience a variety of basketball drills including speed, quickness and agility training, footwork, post, defense, shooting, dribbling and passing. Whether you are a guard or a post player, VTBT equips you with the core essentials to be the best player you can be. VTBT training is designed for athletes of all levels. Jr Basketball LeagueThis specially-designed league is for kindergarten and first- and second-graders. It features one practice and one game per week for 45 minutes to one hour on lower baskets. Practices and games take place between 6 and 8:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, two days per week for 45 minutes to one hour. League focus is on fun, skill development and team play. No scores are kept and a referee officiates each game. Volunteer coaches are needed. All parents must fill out a registration form with T-shirt size and other important information. Martial ArtsTaekwondoTaekwondo, one of the newest Olympic sports, is a 2000-year-old martial art, offering a variety of benefits for people of all ages and physical abilities. Students improve concentration and self- esteem, achieve lifelong physical fitness, and learn self-defense skills. Classes are taught under the direction of G.Master Ki Hong Kim* (9th Dan Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Headquarters.) A $45 uniform fee is required at the first class. Belt testing is offered through The KH Kim Taekwondo at an additional fee and is held twice a year. All colored belt students are required to have complete sparring gears.

Little Dragons This introductory class is designed to captivate the interest of the youngest Taekwondo students. Skills are developed through gentle instruction and appropriate games for their ability. Class focuses on developing balance, coordination and respect. Itasca Rec TeamInstructional Through a cooperative agreement, instructional gymnastics classes are held at Itasca Park District. The Recreational Team gives each child the opportunity to become part of a team activity. Students are divided into three team levels which are designated by the color of their leotard which is included in the registration fee. Students compete in a gymnastics meet in January or May if they have participated in class for at least an 8-week session. It is strongly encouraged that students register for 16 consecutive weeks. New students should register for the class time that is convenient. Students are evaluated on the first day of class. The Medinah Park District School of Dance by Innovation Arts Connection, LLC is community-based program with a studio feel. We provide quality dance instruction to students of all ages and levels. Our instructors have an extensive background in dance and education.

The track consists of two lanes. The inside lane is for walkers and the outside lane is for runners/joggers. 15 laps=1 mile.

Circle Park Ice SkatingOutdoor Ice Skating Thank you to the IDNR (Illinois Department of Natural Resources) grant, the Circle Park roller hockey rink has been fitted with a liner to support ice skating when the weather permits. The outdoor skating rink is located in Circle Park, 163 Fairfield Way, near the Homola Picnic Shelter. The rink and skating are unsupervised.

Skating Conditions – Red Flag/Green Flag Check the flag pole near the rink for skating conditions. Green Flag- Safe to skate on cleared areas during open hours. Skating is unsupervised. It’s the perfect class for couples trying to look good on the dance floor for an upcoming event. Learn the basics and have a great time dancing the fox-trot, waltz, cha-cha and swing/jitterbug. Qigong The inner health of the body is just as important as the outer health. Through the mind-body practice of qigong, participants improve health and longevity, boost their immune system and reduce stress. Using slow, gentle, graceful rocking and stretching motions, combined with deep relaxed breathing, participants improve circulation and digestion while also calming the mind and reducing tension and anxiety. Heart rate and blood pressure also become regulated while boosting energy. The exercises are very effective and easy to learn. Students may choose to sit or stand as needed, making this class suitable for all ages and abilities.

Adopt-A-ParkShow community pride and civic responsibility by partnering with the Bloomingdale Parks Foundation and taking part in the Adopt-A-Park program.

The program is designed to be a low-key, informal approach to involve the community with its neighborhood park by “keeping an eye out” for potential hazards, vandalism and general park abuse, as well as assisting in keeping parks clean and free of invasive vegetation. It is the Park Foundation’s hope that this involvement will increase the level of appreciation and awareness.

Registrations are made only when fees are paid. Registrations are taken on a first‐come, first‐serve basis. Wait lists are formed when programs are filled. Every

attempt is made to accommodate those on the waitlist. A $25 fee will be charged for all returned checks. Post‐dated check for payment is not accepted.

1. If you are new to the online registration system, you must come into the JRC Registration Desk and register with proof of residence (driver’s license or any utility bill).

2. Log on to www.bloomingdaleparks.org. 3. Click on the red “Register Online” arrow in the top right‐

hand corner of the screen. 4. Click on the Login tab at the top of the page. 5. Enter your username and password. 6. In the event you don’t remember your username and/or

password, you can click on the message link below and the system will email this information to you.

7. After logging in, please select any of the links available on the right side of the screen to select the program in which you are interested.

Equal Access No participant shall, on the basis of race, sex, creed, national origin, or disability, be denied equal access to programs, activities, services or benefits, or be limited in the exercise of any right, privilege, advantage or opportunity.

Code of Conduct Participant Guidelines The following guidelines have been developed to help make Park District programs safe and enjoyable for all participants:

Show respect to all participants, spectators and staff. Refrain from using foul language. Refrain from causing bodily harm to other participants,

spectators or staff. Show respect for equipment, supplies and facilities.

Additional rules may be developed for particular programs and athletic leagues as deemed necessary by staff. Inappropriate conduct may result in removal from premises.

Program Refund Policy Individual programs may have specific refund guidelines. Please refer to specific refund policies stated on any individual program registration form or program handbook. General refund guidelines are as follows:

A full refund, less a $5 administrative fee, is provided to any customer who formally requests one at least 3 business days prior to the first class/practice, or by the program/trip advertised deadline.

Refund requests made within 3 business days prior to the start of the program receive a prorated refund less the $5 administrative fee.

Refunds requested after the program is completed are not granted.

Refunds requested for medical reasons are granted when accompanied by a doctor’s note.

The $5 administrative fee is not assessed for refunds due to low enrollment or cancelled programs, rental/party deposits.

Refunds are handled on a case‐by‐case basis. Say Cheese Photographs and videos are periodically taken of people participating in Park District programs and activities. All persons participating in Park District programs/activities or using Park District property thereby agree that any photograph or video taken by the Park District may be used by the Park District for promotional purposes including its promotional videos, brochures, flyers and other publications without additional, prior notice or permission and without compensation to the participant.

Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slip and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities exist. In this regard, it must be recognized that it is impossible for the Bloomingdale Park District to guarantee absolute safety.

WAIVER AND RELEASE OF ALL CLAIMS AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the programs listed above, you will be expressly assuming the risk and liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with these programs (including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided).
