~ River High School Winter Sports 2011-12 ~
As the school year is moving forward, anew season of sports is starting at RiverHigh School. Dr. Vincent Monseau, theschool principal, will be the head wrestlingcoach. Boys and girls basketball coaches,Mark Romick and Rick Isaly, are anticipat-ing a very competitive program this year.
Coach Romick wants to create a bal-anced team this year with a mixture of tal-
ents and attributes such as height, speed, and shooting ability. “We are looking toget better as the year goes on,” saidRomick. The team lost a good group of seniors last year, but leadership is stillexpected out of this year’s senior class.
Last year’s seniors included SamRamsier, Tucker Brown, Jordan Potts, ZacWax and Tyler Stewart. They will truly bemissed this year. The team was the sec-tional champions last year with a record of
15-7. Romick added, “We have one starteroff of last year’s team.” Juniors includeJordan Indermuhle, Brett Price, CodyCaldwell, Matt Marconi, Chad Isaly, Kam
Brown, Evan Eggleston, Nick Asturi, andJustin Thomas. Sophomores include EricDierkes, Ryan Ludolph, Bailey Reusser, and Chase Young. Freshmen include RyanIndermuhle, Wesley Smith, Cole Isaly,Jared Ramsier, Matt Gauding, JoshStewart, Aaron Yost, and Dylan Ice.
Isaly, coach of the girls’ basketball team, has a goal in coaching from year-to-year
that is to “be a better team than…last year”He is looking forward “to win the section-al [tournament] and also be in the OVACtop four teams that get in the playoffs.”The girls’ basketball team is young thisyear with four lettermen and two startersreturning. “We want to play an up-tempogame, push the ball up and down thefloor,” said Isaly. Regarding the athleticability of his team, Isaly added, “Thismight be one of the hardest working
groups I’ve had in the years since I havebeen here.”The girls basketball team is a large

involved. Monseau said, “I want it to bepositive. I want it to be uplifting. And cer-tainly, challenging as well.” Monseau hashad a renowned career coaching wrestlingat the collegiate level. He was the WestLiberty coach for many years. Monseausaw that, “Our wrestling program appearedto be spiraling downward.” He wanted “totry to get it [River wrestling program]going in the right direction.” Monseau pri-marily wants to attract students to the sportand that is exactly what he is doing. Thiscan be seen by the increase in the numberof participants from last year.
This year, the wrestlers include JeremyAlexander, Matthew Alleman, Cody Binni,Dane Butler, Dustin Chambers, Bryce
Cross, Joseph Dotson, Dakota Dunn, Hank Goble, Jared Hinkle, Dylan Ice, AaronIngram, Jeremy Lamp, Logan Lucas, FredMundt III, Dallas Necessary, Noah Porter,Brandon Reusser, Dalton Reynolds, GarthRichter, Brett Rosen, Jordan Sapp, KoleSmith, Jon Stewart, Devin Talbot, ThomasTharp, and Hougie Thomas.
Last year’s group of three seniors will bemissed greatly this year. Josh Bartrug wasa two-time Ohio state tournament partici-pant, an OVAC champion and an OVACrunner-up. Zach Strickland was a districtqualifier who continued to get better allyear long. James West was a significantcontributor. They all received multiple let-ters. “I’d take them all back right now,”Monseau said about last year’s seniors.
River coaches are anticipating a promis-ing year for their respective teams. The2011-2012 boys and girls basketball, aswell as the wrestling teams, are ready tostart their seasons.
Winter sports will start with the girl’sbasketball team playing at home against
