Winter Park High School was established in 1923 and was one of the first public schools in the county. It has a total enrollment of 3407, with

a senior class of 801. The student body is approximately 7% Asian, 10% Black, 27% Hispanic, 3% Multiracial and 51% White. Approxi-

mately 39% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The faculty is comprised of 205 teachers. WPHS received an "A" grade in 2017-18 for its Florida School Grade. The school has been nationally recog-

nized on the Challenge Index with a recent ranking in The Washington Post of 192

Winter Park’s IB Diploma Programme was started in 1985, and is one of the first diploma programmes in the state of Florida. There are104 IB seniors in the Class of 2018. Worldwide, approximately 79% of the candidates attempting to earn the diploma are successful. At Winter Park, the 2017 IB Diploma pass rate was 93%. Winter Park currently offers the Diploma Programme and now also offers the new Career-Related Programme with an initial cohort of 10 students. Current-ly at WPHS the CP programme is offered to students enrolled in PLTW elect Biomedical Sciences or Digital Video Production.

The AP and IB Programs at Winter Park High School are both successful and highly respected by major colleges and universi-ties throughout the nation. Each program is designed to enrich the high school experience and offer students an excellent op-portunity to prepare for advanced study and potentially earn

college credit.

The IB Career Programme Curriculum Every student in the International Baccalaureate® (IB) Career Programme (CP)

career pathway in either Biomedical Scienc-

es or Digital Video Production. The CP core bridges the IB academic courses and the career-related study and provides students with a combination of academic and practical skills. Four interrelated components form the core. Personal and professional skills Personal and professional skills is designed for students to develop attitudes, skills and strategies to be applied to personal and professional situations and contexts now and in the future. In this course the emphasis is on skills development for the workplace, as these are transferable and can be applied in a range of situations. Service learning Service learning is the development and application of knowledge and skills towards meeting an identified and authentic community need. In this research-based approach, students often undertake service initiatives related to topics studied previously in their academic disciplines, utilizing skills, understandings and values developed in these studies. Reflective Project The reflective project is an in-depth body of work produced over an extended period of time and submitted towards the end of the CP. Through a reflective project students identify, analyse, critically discuss and evaluate an ethical issue arising from their career-related studies. The reflective project is intended to promote high-level research, writing and extended communication skills, intellectual discovery and creativity. Language Development Language development ensures that all students have access to and are exposed to a language program that will assist and further their understanding of the wider world. The ability to communicate in more than one language is essential to the IB’s concept of an international education.
