Intro to Acting, In-PersonDesigned for the beginning student, this class teaches beginning performers to develop believable characters while learning acting techniques in a fun, supportive environment. Under the guidance of a theatre professional, students gain confidence for performing in front of an audience by learning theatre games, improvisation techniques, and scripted work while having an unforgettable class experience.

Intermediate Acting Class: Getting Specific, In-Person This class is a follow-up to our Intro to Acting course, and focuses on scene study, script analysis, and charac-ter development. Students will work on scenes with partners, and delve deeper into character studies, as a way to get to the heart of great acting. After taking this class, students will have confidence to audition for any role!. (no class 2/09)

Scene Study For Youth, In-PersonExplore advanced acting techniques in this challenging course. Students will focus on text analysis and making dramatic choices based on the text. Students participate in engaging exercises as well as hands-on scene and solo work. Director feedback provides students with a deeper understanding of how to rehearse a scene. Memorization of scenes is required. Scenes are assigned on the first day of class.

Shaking Shakespeare! In-Person Young Actors, welcome to the World of Shakespeare! The Bard's language, characters and stories pervade western civilization. Who hasn't been touched by the tragic story of 'Romeo and Juliet,' or the melancholy Dane Hamlet? In this class, you'll stage short scenes and individual speeches from some of Shakespeare's most engaging plays. Instructor will tailor selections to meet the interests of students. A great opportunity to experience and learn Shakespeare's writing as a performer!

Improv like a Pro! In-PersonImprovisation is a wildly fun performing art form where the actor's split second decisions and quick witted responses can turn everyday situations into moments of comic delight! Whether you're grooming yourself for an impromptu presentation at school, an audition for your favorite play, or a stint on “Saturday Night Live,” youngsters well versed in improvisational techniques are prepared to respond to all of life's situations with wit and humor.

Performance Studio, In-PersonStudents will work with a director to prepare and stage a short, one act play. They’ll be guided through the audition process, delve the depths of a character as a means of discovering dialogue that’s natural and believable, and gain hands-on experience performing on stage. Some memorization outside of class is expected. Everyone who enrolls will receive a role in the play. Actors of all experience levels are welcome.

Prince & Princess BalletThis is a magically themed dance class designed to capture a child’s fascination with fairytales. Children will learn basic ballet, combination steps, and creative movements as they dance to familiar fairytale themed music. Each dancer will receive a sparkling new scarf and wand that they’ll be able to take home at the end of the program.

Kid’s Combo Dance! In-PersonThis combination dance class incorporates the 3 major disciplines: Ballet, Modern, and Jazz. The class will balance technique training with expressive movement in a fun, upbeat environment. Students will learn to explore their emotions through body movement and expression. Students will also learn to dance with each other, in formations, and with props. Parent participation required for the morning classes.

Hip Hop for KidsStudents will learn a broad collection of urban street dance styles. Hip-Hop evolved from Hip-Hop culture and includes elements from Jazz, Rock, Tap, African, American and Latino dance cultures. These cultures will influence the hip-hop style and technique learned in class.

Musical Theatre Dance!Students will learn the distinctive styles of some of Broadway’s leading choreographers such as Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins. The class challenges children to deepen their dance skills as they venture through some of Broadway’s most popular musicals, learning some of the choreography that gave these produc-tions their fame and lasting appeal.

Broadway Goes Hip Hop!The dynamic style of Hip Hop dance has found its way onto the Broadway stage in recent years in such smash hit musicals as In The Heights and Hamilton. In this class, dancers will learn exciting choreography set to the music of these meg-hit Hip Hop musicals.

PLAY PALOOZA10 Minute Play Contest

Students from 3rd to12th grade are invited to submit original plays to Play Palooza, 10 Minute Play Contest, 2022.Public, private, charter, and home-school students are welcome to submit entries. Students submit original work in three categories: Elementary School (3rd-5th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade), and High School (9th-12th grade). Collaborative works are accepted. Winning plays receive a workshop performance at PACT, and winning playwrights receive prizes donated by the Friends of the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre. Performances of award-winning plays take place in a work-shop format on our Castle Stage. Awards sponsored by the Friends of the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre.
