A er a 10-year career in the non-pro t world, she now spends her days wrangling her two little boys, attempting to grow her own vegetables … and many of her evenings lettering until far too late!

Continuing Education!

Register Now for Winter Classes at South!

MEET LAUREL SHERIDAN!

Why did you start taking Continuing Ed classes? I recently retired from King County and was getting bored! I received the Continuing Ed catalog, fl ipped through it, and decided to take a Spanish course. I’d taken Spanish in high school but wanted to get back to studying it. Since then, I’ve taken a cooking class and lots of art classes.  I took a Home Improvement class with a friend which was really fun. I’ve come across two or three of the same people from previous classes.

What has been the class that was the biggest risk for you? My acting class! I was used to giving presentations on policy and budget matters at work, but to work on stage with another person was a completely diff erent experience. It was a challenge and way out of my comfort zone.  But, I did it, I survived, and I’m glad I did it.

Which class was the biggest surprise for you? I’m surprised that I seem to have a talent for drawing! I took the 10-week series and learned a lot. It taught me to look at things with an artist’s eye. I was also surprised at how relaxing crochet was for me. I wear a FitBit and during my crochet classes, my heartrate would drop to sleeping rate. I’d never learned to crochet before and it came really easily to me and I still do a little at home on my own.
