    n May of 1990, the Parklands Foundation was created by the Charleston County Park and Recreationommission. The purpose of this foundation is to generate funding for the continued growth andevelopment of the county park system and to support increased leisure opportunities for Charlestonounty residents. Funding efforts pursued by this entity will assist with the acquisition of parklandsnd the construction of park facilities.

Thesouthwestern end of Kiawah Island at Captain Sams Inlet is anexcellent place to spot various seabirds and shorebirds. FromKiawah Beachwalker Park we will hike nearly two miles of pristibeach looking for a variety of birds including plovers, dunlins,gannets, and turnstones.     WAves And beAChes For boAts And boAterThe coast is a dynamic meeting of earth and water wherewe all like to play. Come to this two-part class series to learnwhy waves form and how coastal topography and featuresinfluence those patterns. Well study tides in depth and delveinto such intricacies as inlets, swash bars, surf breaks, andbeach formations. This class will present essential knowledgeregardless of your preferred water craft.
