Winona County History CenterOur main museum is located in Downtown Winona in the former National Guard Armory, (1915) with the modernLaird Norton Addition. It presents the history of Winona County with three floors of interpretive exhibits. Our hands-on children’s exhibit, “Walking Through Time” received an award from the American Association of State and Local History; children are invited to explore a cave, tipi and steamboat pilothouse. The Winona County Timeline exhibit gives an overview of how our area and community has changed with the larger historical events of our country and world. Thematic exhibits on industry, military, commerce, agriculture and transportation are also part of the experiences at the History Center. Check our website for current and upcoming traveling/temporary exhibits too!

Willard Bunnell HouseIn 1849, fur-trader Willard Bunnell, built a cabin on Dakota land at what is now Homer, Minnesota. Within a decade, Bunnell had built another, much finer, home nearby to house his wife and family -- the present-day Bunnell House. There is a park across from the property for recess time or lunch. Tours are offered in early fall and late spring. Groups larger than 20 should plan to split their tour with time at the adjacent park, due to limited space in the house.

Rural Heritage MuseumNew Location, New Look, New Experiences! The Arches Museum of Pioneer Life has been closed. Upon the sale of the property a new building with exhibits will be built on the Winona County fairgrounds in St. Charles. The log cabin, barn, machinery and artifacts are moved there already. The schoolhouse will be used on the Winona State University campus. We will be restoring the larger one-room school at the Fairgrounds, the Gainey (Little Red) Schoolhouse. Watch for more information! Please call us if you have questions!

Field Trips!
