WINNIPEG JETS VS. COLORADO AVALANCHE MTS CentreTuesday, December 12, 2013 –7:00 PM (CT)Game 33                (14-14-4) Home Game 18    (7-7-3)

GAME PREVIEW The Winnipeg Jets (14-14-4) first game against Colorado this season came at a time when the Avalanche (20-9-0) were still soaring outof the game, earning a 9-1-0 record through the first 10 games of the season. It was a close one on Oct. 27 as Colorado, the hometeam in the first Jets-Avalanche game this season, squeezed out a 3-2 win. Since then the Avalanche have gone 10-8-0 losing their lasttwo games. The last appearance at MTS Centre for the Avalanche came during the Jets inaugural season in 2011-12 when Winnipegdealt the visitors a 5-1 loss on Feb. 19/12.  TEAM NOTES One goal gamesAfter dropping their game versus St. Louis by a 2-1 score on Tuesday, the Jets are now tied for the NHL lead in games decided by onegoal. Winnipeg has played in 19 games decided by a single marker this season and hold a record of 7-8-4 in those games. Other NHLteams with 19 one-goal games are the Calgary Flames, New York Islanders &New Jersey Devils. The Jets win percentage in one-goalgames is .421 which ranks 22nd in the NHL.  The power play returnsThe Jets took advantage of the extra man for their only goal on Tuesday versus St. Louis (1-2 L), as Bryan Little’s third period markergave Winnipeg their first power play goal since Nov. 21. The Jets power play had gone goalless on 20 opportunities over that stretch.Dustin Byfuglien leads the team in power play points by a wide margin, recording 10 points (4G, 6A) on the 12 power play goals theJets have scored. The Jets current power play percentage is 11.3%, converting on 12 of 106 opportunities. The percentage is slightlyhigher at home sitting at 15.5% with nine goals on 59 attempts at MTS Centre. All around .500 recordNearly every aspect of Winnipeg’s record reads .500. Their season record currently sits at 14-14-4, comprised of a 7-7-3 home recordand a 7-7-1 record while on the road. The Jets record over their last 10 games sits at .500 with a record of 4-4-2 dating back to Nov. 18versus Calgary (4-5 SOL).  Not much for shotsThe Jets allowed a season-low 20 shots against on Tuesday night versus St. Louis (1-2 L). Following the first period of that game, theJets had only allowed two shots on goal which was also a season-low. The Jets didn’t exactly rack up the shots in response as thegame ended with a 21-20 shot total in Winnipeg’s favour. The 41 shots on goal was the lowest collective total in a Jets game thisseason.  PLAYER NOTES Olli carries onCentre Olli Jokinen carried the momentum he built on the road trip forward to the Jets first game back registering an assist on Tuesdayversus St. Louis (1-2 L). Jokinen’s point, his 19th of the season, gives him five (3G, 2A) over the last four games dating back to Dec. 2.The 35-year-old has done well against his next opponent earning 24 points (10G, 14A) in 32 games versus Colorado, more points thanany other Jet against the Avalanche. Little gets back in goal columnThe Jets leading goal scorer Bryan Little hadn’t netted one since Nov. 18 versus Calgary (4-5 SOL), but got back on the board withWinnipeg’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday night. Little paces Winnipeg with 13 goals this season, to go along with histeam-best 28 point total. Little’s goal was scored on the power play giving the Jets their first power play marker since Nov. 21 versusChicago (3-6 L). Despite the goal drought of eight games, Little’s shooting percentage of 18.3% remains among the best in the NHL.Among players with at least 13 goals, only four players (Backes, Stamkos, Getzlaf, Steen) have a better shooting percentage. Trouba not hesitantJets rookie Jacob Trouba played with little hesitation to his game on Tuesday versus St. Louis (1-2 L) leading the team in shotattempts with seven (3 SOG, 2 A/B, 2 MS) and recorded hits with five. His five hits was a season-high for Trouba, who had previously

Man Games Lost To Inury: 48 TONIGHT'S GAME: AVS HEAD TO WINNIPEG FOR ONE-GAME TRIP The Colorado Avalanche travels to Winnipeg to face the Jets tonight at the MTS Centre.  This is Colorado's second trip to Canada inthe last week, as the Avs had a three-game venture to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver from Dec. 5-8.  With a victory tonight, theAvalanche would equal their most wins through 30 games in franchise history (21 in 2000-01 and 1994-95).  The Avalanche reachedthe 20-win mark faster than any team in franchise annals, doing so in their 27th game on Dec. 6 at Calgary.  The 2000-01 team earnedtheir 20th victory in their 28th contest.  Colorado's 29 games played this year are tied for the fewest in the NHL. FIRST AND FOREMOST The Avs are 17-0-0 when scoring the first goal, the NHL's only unbeaten team when scoring first.  Colorado is 13-0-0 when leading afterthe first period and 17-0-0 when leading after two. ROAD WARRIORS Colorado is 10-4-0 (20 points) on the road this season, the club's best record through 14 road games in franchise history.  The previousbest was 18 points in both 2000-01 (8-4-2) and 2003-04 (7-3-3-1).  The Avalanche began the year a league-best 6-0 away from home, matching their longest road winning streak to begin a season in franchise history.  The 2011-12 team also opened 6-0.  The Avs didn'tsuffer their first road defeat until Nov. 12 at Carolina, nearly six weeks into the 2013-14 season.  Colorado's 6-0 run fell one shy ofequaling the franchise's longest road winning streak at any point of a season (7 games, Jan. 10 to Feb. 7, 1999). JIGGY SETS FRANCHISE MARK FOR BEST START BY A GOALIE Jean-Sebastien Giguere opened the year 7-0, becoming the first goaltender in franchise history to start a season 7-0.  Giguere's seven-game winning streak was a new career best, topping his previous high of six consecutive wins done twice before.  Jiggy was the firstAvalanche goaltender to win seven straight games since Andrew Raycroft from Nov 29, 2008 to Jan 10, 2009.

EXTRA CREDIT The Avs are 4-0-0 in games that go beyond regulation, 3-0 in overtime and 1-0 in shootouts.  Colorado participated in its first shootoutof the season on Nov. 30 vs. Minnesota.  Prior to that game, the Avalanche and Rangers were the only NHL teams that had yet to gointo a shootout in 2013-14.  Semyon Varlamov is 14-7 all-time in shootouts, stopping .784 percent of his attempts (74 shots, 16 goals). Varly's .784 shootout save percentage ranks second in NHL history behind only Marc Denis (.854). RECORD START BEHIND THE BENCH Patrick Roy led the Avalanche to a 6-0-0 start, tying the NHL record for consecutive wins by a head coach to begin his career.  MarioTremblay also won his first six games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1995-96.  Roy went on to become the first coach in NHL historyto win 14 of his first 16 career games and one of only two coaches in league history to win 12 of his first 13 (Marc Crawford, Quebec,1994-95).  Roy posted 15 wins in his first 20 games behind the bench, tying him with Dan Bylsma (15-2-3) for the second-most winsamong active coaches through their first 20 career games.  Only Todd McLellan (16-3-1) won more.  The Roy-led Avalanche were thefastest team to reach 20 wins in franchise history, doing so in their 27th game on Dec. 6 at Calgary. FAST START A look at the Avalanche's hot start to the season... •   Opened the season 6-0, by far the club's best start since the team moved to Denver in 1995 and one shy of the franchise record (7-0     in 1985-86). •   Each of Colorado's six wins and each of San Jose's first six victories this year came in regulation, the first NHL teams to begin a     season with six consecutive regulation victories since the 1996-97 Dallas Stars. •   12-1-0 record in the first 13 games, becoming one of only five teams in NHL history to win 12 of their first 13 contests (2007-08     Senators, 2005-06 Red Wings, 1994-95 Nordiques and Penguins). •   10-1-0 in October, earning 20 out of a possible 22 points.  That .909 points percentage was the best of any month in franchise      history (min 10 GP).  The 10 victories matched the franchise record for wins in the month of October (10-2-2 in 2009). •   Colorado finished 9-5-0 in November, matching their most wins in the month of November in franchise history.  The 2003-04 team     went 9-3-2-1 in November of that year. •   The Avalanche led outright or shared the division lead for a total of 43 consecutive days from Oct. 3 to Nov. 14. YOUNGEST CAPTAIN Gabriel Landeskog, 21, is the youngest current captain in the league.  Landeskog was named team captain on Sept. 4, 2012, becomingthe youngest captain in NHL history (19 years, 286 days).  He was 11 days younger than Sidney Crosby, who was 19 years, 297 dayswhen he was named captain of the Penguins on May 31, 2007. HISTORIC DEBUT Nathan MacKinnon made his NHL debut at the age of 18 years, 31 days on Oct. 2, making him the youngest player in franchisehistory.  He was over 200 days younger than the previous record holder, Owen Nolan, who was 18 years, 235 days when he debutedfor Quebec on Oct. 4, 1990 at Hartford.  MacKinnon picked up a pair of assists in that debut for his first career points.  He became theyoungest NHL player to record two or more points in a game since January 8, 1944, when Toronto's Ted Kennedy had four points(1g/3a) against the Bruins at the age of 18 years, 27 days.
