Dear Parents and Carers, Everyone is definitely geng back into the swing of things! It is fabulous walking around school, classes are seled and children working and playing hard! We had visitors this morning who de- scribed the atmosphere in our school as a ‘happy family’! YEAR 2 had a fabulous trip to Sunderland Winter Gardens this week. They learnt much about plants which is linked to their Science topic. Behaviour and enthusiasm were praised by the staff. 100% ATTENDANCE Well done to the children who managed to get into school every day last year. No mean feat! It is something all schools celebrate and we are no different. Thank you for all the ideas on Facebook, a couple of which we are looking into. We do also celebrate children who achieve 96% which is the minimum expected aendance figure and part of Miss Lile’s job is to work with children and families below this figure. We do also understand the annoyance for chil- dren who have hospital appointments that they can’t help, the system does seem unfair, we agree but please remember it’s not our system! It is a subject which we are also going to discuss with School Parliament. PACKED LUNCHES – we have more children than ever on packed lunches. All children are given plenty of me to eat their lunch, 20-25 minutes; somemes they choose to spend more me chang than eang! They are always encouraged to finish their lunch but somemes there is just too much in their lunch boxes to make this possible. We cannot tell you what to put into your child/ren’s lunch boxes but we can advise healthy choices. Lots of children have started to bring in pasta or rice. Someone had a thermos cup with spaghe hoops and cheese in today! (Fabulous idea!) A sandwich, fruit/veg, crackers, cheese and yoghurt (if you can stand the mess it makes!) is enough. As a guide it’s worth looking at the recommended daily calorie intake for children in Yrs 3 – 6 and checking out labels on processed food, they are very high in calories.
