In 2015, after many years working in global health, I shifted my focus back to communications, an area in which I had been very successful earlier. My technical communication skills include use of Wordpress (web content management), Lightroom (photo post-processing), InDesign (layout), web-based tools (social media and graphics) and MailChimp (e-newsletters). I use personal camera gear to meet photography needs. I am a skilled, collaborative co-author with proven ability to deliver results on projects that require development of new skills on the fly. For example in 2017-2018, I independently developed and applied skill in historical research, which was required for the project. Selected Accomplishments • Writer, editor, archival researcher and graphic designer of UNC epidemiology: Our first 40 years, 1936-1976 (with Victor Schoenbach) • Creator and supervisor of a communications program; development of an extensive body of publications (at Ipas) • Co-author of five technical and policy publications for the World Health Organization (usually credited in the acknowledgements) • Catalyst for a game-changing body of work that ushered postabortion care into the mainstream of global health and defined the global standard of care for over a decade Professional Experience Public Communication Specialist at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health (2015 to present) (80% time) • Serve as communication lead for the Department of Health Behavior at the Gillings School • Responsible for the department’s communications channels, e.g. website, social media and liaison with the Gillings School communication team • Engage with health behavior alumni, working in partnership with the assistant to the chair of the department and the president of the health behavior section of the Gillings Alumni Association • Complete communications projects for the UNC Department of Epidemiology (Links to work samples from my current job are available later in this document.)
