The Principal’s Shield
Lamp of Knowledge The month of November provides us an opportunity to prepare our students for the last push of learning for the 1st semester. In fact, progress reports will be distributed on Wednesday, November 4th. Please review those progress reports with your child and assist him/her in developing a plan for continued progress in their learning. By doing so,
you are also supporting our efforts to increase student accountability and ownership of learning. This month we have several field trips that provide our students with opportunities to make authentic learning connections, so encourage your child to take advantage of these learning experiences. Additionally, we will have several opportunities for students to engage in some intense review sessions in Saturday Academy, tutorial, and even during class as we prepare for upcoming standardized testing (Georgia Milestones) and other exams. As we continue our partnering relationship with you parents, we ask that you are making it a priority for our students to arrive to school each day on time, that you are allowing our students to remain at school for the entire school day, and that you are limiting your electronic communications with students during the day. By doing so, our students will have an opportunity to be actively engaged and focused in the full day learning experience which ultimately allows for increased student learning, progress, and achievement.
Oak Leaf of Victory
I am continuously reminded of our school motto "We lead and all will follow" as it is reflected through the example and accomplishments of our students and teachers. I am proud to recognize and acknowledge the hard work and demonstration of learning at high levels for those students earning high honor roll and honor roll during 1st marking period. I also want to recognize those students who achieved GHP (governor’s honors program) recognition, participated in the Armstrong State University art competition and placed 2nd and 3rd, were recognized in the Sulfer Studio Art gallery with their art display, as well as our band and chorus students who performed at their respective GMEA district honor’s events and received excellent ratings. Oak Leaf of Strength Windsor Forest HS and the Georgia Department of Education need your help with the 2015-16 School Climate Surveys. These anonymous online surveys seek parent, student, and staff feedback on the quality and character of school life, and are part of the calculation that determines our school’s climate rating within the College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI). We hope that you will take 5-10 minutes of your time to complete the 2015-16 Georgia Parent Survey by visiting our website at http://wfhs.sccpss.com and look under the announcement tab. You may take this survey from any desktop, laptop, or mobile internet device. Parents are also welcome to visit the school and take the survey in the College and Career Center of our Guidance Office. Congratulations to the Cross Country Boys’ and Girls’ Teams for hard work and dedication during the 2015-16 season.
Great news: The Boys Cross Country team won Runner-Up in the
3-AAAA Regions Race last Thursday, October 29, 2015. They will continue on to the Georgia State Championship Meet held on Saturday, November 7, 2015! They are now preparing hard to race against the other top runners in the state. The team will travel Friday, where Coach Blizzard-Flowers and Mr. Graham will hold a light
practice on the championship course. Then, on Saturday, the boys’ race start time is 12:00 pm. Come to Carrollton if you can!
The team was made up of novice runners who practiced good work ethic and
sportsmanship. Their skills improved through the season, and their team comradery is heart-warming. I am very proud of them. They lifted me up and taught me a few things too! We could not have come this far without the help of many. Huge thank you!!
A BIG thank you to Mr. Eron Graham, parent of two our team runners, Eron and Jessilyn Graham, who became more than our initially appointed volunteer position, ‘Consultant to the Coach‘! Mr. Graham’s helpful tips and relentless demonstration of endurance, self-discipline at practice and races. Sharing his expertise as a personal trainer and athlete, Mr. Graham honed our team to 3-AAAA Regions’ Championship and prepared for the STATE challenge! We all thank you for your passionate time and dedication to young athletes at Windsor Forest High”. We would also like to thank the many faculty members, especially supporting teachers allowing the team to leave class for their meets, Athletic Director, Coach Sanders, Coaches Anderson and
Heaton, Sam Wright, Cam Turner, Parker, and Busby for their coaching expertise motivation, our front office heroes: Mrs. Amerson, and Mrs. Carrington, our fabulous media stars, Laura Mills, Nancy Mote, and Fallin, of course our Administrators, Mr. Butler, Mr. Platts, Mr. Groeper, and Mrs. Coaxum who are always supportive of the success of our young athletes, and of course parents and colleagues who extended themselves to us time and again all season. We appreciate everyone, and could not have come this far without you all.
Coach Blizzard-Flowers.
