WINDOWS SERVER 2008

Windows server 2008 is one of Microsoft Windows’ server lines of operating system based on the Windows NT architecture.

It is generally capable of providing server-oriented services, such as ability to host website(intranet/internet), user management, resource management across users and applications, messaging, security and authorization and many other server-focused services

Active Directory

Active directory is the core of Microsoft’s network operating system.

Active directory refers to the directory services (the database) that contains data on all of the objects within the forest, and it allows administrators to centrally manage the network.

This database is contained on server hosting the role of AD DS.

Enables administrators to assign system policies, deploy software to client computers, and assign permissions and rights to users of network resources

Active Directory Domain Services

ADDS are the foundation for distributed networks built on Windows Server 2008 operating systems that use domain controllers

ADDS stores directory data and manages communication between users and domains, including users logon processes, authentication and directory searches

Administrators use ADDS to organize objects or elements of a network.

DHCP Server

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Server role provides automatic IP addresses to computers and other devices that are enabled as DHCP clients.

DHCP is configured with scopes to identify the range of available IP addresses to give to computers on that scope.

The primary tools for managing DHCP servers are Netsh commands for DHCP and the DHCP console.

DNS Server

A DNS Server provides name resolution for TCP/IP based networks.

It makes it possible for users of client computers to use names rather than numeric IP addresses to identify remote hosts.

When installing ADDS role, you can automatically install and configure a DNS server if a DNS server that meets ADDS requirements cannot be located.
