William Blake 1757-1827
William Blake
• William Blake endured some failures along his path to being a poet.
• He was partly influenced because of the school he attended, and his early jobs.
• Some notable works are “The Book of Thel” and “Tyger”
A Dream
“A Dream” is a poem about an emmet, or ant, that has lost the way. She is sad, and then something happens. A glow-worm shows the emmet the way by using its light. A beetle uses his hum to guide the emmet. The glow-worm and the beetle are God. Showing the way for the lost person.
The Blossom
“The Blossom” is a poem about two birds. The blossom is just watching the two birds. One is a sparrow, the sparrow seems to be happy “swift as an arrow”
The other bird is a robin. The robin isn’t as happy as the sparrow. The blossom can hear the robin sobbing. I think the blossom feels sorry for the robin.
Poetry Elements
• These poems have some rhyming to them.
• They are both shorter poems that have some meaning.
• The poem “The Blossom” has some alliteration talking about the pretty birds.
