Wilkerson Weekly Week of April 4th April 10th __________________________________________________________________ By Meredith Bach and Morgan Chaddan ________________________________________________ What We Learned in Class this Week: Monday: Students shared their items that they brought in for our new essential question, “How do Challenges Affect Us?” We also worked on our arguments for the practice AIR testing Tuesday: Today our arguments for the practice AIR testing were due today on the subject, “Are Video Games Bad for You?” We shared our writing in pairs of two. Wednesday: Today was block day, and the students worked on their SLO testing and our other personal arguments. (Due Monday, April 11th) Thursday: No ELA today Friday: Today we had a free period to work on all upcoming ELA assignments. Current Assignment Due Dates: Book Talks due at varying times of the months Argumentative Essay due Monday, April 11th This week´s weekly reading log and Comprehension Focus due Monday, April 11th Special Events: Hudson Middle School’s elite writing team Power of the Pen, (Or P.O.P for short,) hosted the Power of the Pen regional writing tournament this Saturday starting at 8:00am. 129 schools attended this event, some with teams that barely have all their people, and some with all. Fortunately, the 7th grade portion of HMS Power of the Pen team all made it into regionals. OUr 8th and 7th grade team made it successfully through the three writing rounds, because at the awards ceremony, Hudson placed first overall! Many more awards came along, included that the 7th grade team won for the 7th grade. Congratulations to Lauren Mansky, and Abby Moran for making the 7th grade girls lacrosse team!

  • ● Hudson girls lacrosse team had a game on Tuesday at 5:15 against Kent, finishing with a complete shutout against the other girls and a score of 160.  

    ● Patrick Li recently placed 3rd place at his district science fair, 2nd at NEOSEF, and is continuing to go on to states! Best of luck Patrick! 

    ●  ELA students in the 8th grade HMS math league all placed within fifty people! David Li placed 4th overall, John Main 17th, and Gabe Pochman 28th. Patrick Li, who is in the 7tyh grade math league, placed 4th. Also in the 7th grade math league, was Amelia Schofalvi, and she placed as well. Great job guys!  

    ● As you might all remember drawing a poster for health class, Amanda Liu and Jack Vogel both  won awards for that!  

     Upcoming Events:   

    ● AIR testing ● HMS 6th and 7th grade Bash ● 8th grade planner and tshirt design competition 

     BIRTHDAYS!!  Happy early birthday to this week's fellow Newsletter Writer, Morgan Chaddan!!! Morgan turns 13 on April, 29th!!   A moment to appreciate pokemon logic (By Morgan)  

  •                           Student Interview… Can You Guess Who It 

    Is?   Dear Readers, Morgan and I do apologize in advance, for this interview took place during lunch, and there were many interruptions. However, I felt the need to add these in, because they seemed necessary.(and funny)    Meredith: Hello! Student: Hello!  Meredith: So, how long have you been in ELA? Student: Three years, 5th, 6th, and 7th.  Morgan: What? I thought it was four.. Student: No.. three Morgan: I was sure it was four..  Student: It was three! (they argue as I eat my potato chips)  Meredith: Do you have a pet?  Student: Yes, I do have a pet. A dog.  Meredith: Me too! What are consider some of your hobbies? Student: I like to act, sing, and play tennis. Morgan: I didn't know you played tennis?!  Student: Itś my favorite sport.  

  • Morgan: How long have you been playing tennis?  Student: Um, since the 3rd grade.  Meredith: Same! But I don't do it anymore. So what is your favorite subject? Student: I like math, math is my favorite subject.  Morgan: I hate math.  Meredith: Morgan! Focus!  Morgan: I am focusing… on eating icecream. Lick. Meredith: *Gets distracted* Ooh! What flavor?  *Student of the week sits there awkwardly while we discus Morganś ice cream. Meredith: Anyway, back on topic… *Someone walks up and offers us popcorn, and we are all now distracted.* Student:  Maybe we should go back to questions? Meredith: Yeah Morgan: Lick.  Meredith: Okay, so earlier you said you act. What your favorite play you've been in? Student: My favorite play would have to be the Comic Book Artist. I got to play the boss of the Comic Book Company.  Meredith: How come you liked that part so much?  Student: I liked how I got to yell at people. It was nice. Meredith: Okay! Well thank you for joining us! Have a good restof lunch!  Morgan: Bye!    Can you guess the student? Find out the answer at the end of the Newsletter!     JOKE OF THE WEEK!!! (submitted by Meredith)    Why did the plane crash?  ………………………………………………………... BECAUSE THE PILOT WAS A LOAF OF BREAD

           Animal of the week… Fennec Fox 

     Fennec Foxes are the smallest of foxes, they only weigh 2.2 lb. on average 

  • Fennec foxes ears are very large in proportion to their bodies at 6 in. long. A Fennec fox has a role in the hit Disney movie Zootopia as Finnick, Nicholas Wildes partner in crime. Finnick’s name is a play on the name of his species. Fennec foxes live in groups of up to 10 individuals In some parts of the world Fennec Foxes are bred as housepets The scientific name for a Fennec Fox is Vulpes Zerda Fennec Foxes can also be called Desert Foxes Fennec Foxes are nocturnal animals                                                                                                                       Finnick
