The use of an E-Reader is an excellent alternative during instruction as it provides an interactive electronic resource that is used similarly to a smartphone to read books or articles for school.

Put the student’s cell phone use to their benefit by meeting the need to text but also remain focused on the task at hand within the classroom by communicating with their peers through in class group assignments via texting.

QR Codes in the Classroom?

Integrating QR codes creates a new collaboration of learning with a sense of mystery. For example, on a page full of math equations to solve, putting a QR code on the top lets students check their answers while in class or at home. This provides an independent way for students to use their phones for educational purposes.

An Opportunity of Trust & Maturity

Give students the opportunity to gain your trust by letting them prove they can control their need and/or want to use their phone for personal use. Once the trust is set, they will gain a sense of maturity and motivation to do well academically while learning there’s a time and place for personal cell phone use.
