Adventure!

Who were the most adventurous culture in history?

Page 23: Widehorizons staff conference (day 2)

Vikings, sea travel, over land, trading with different cultures, and of course travelling other countries to collect resources and protecting their families

The image of the Viking does capture the imagination of young and old, in popular culture there is Marvel’s Thorr and references to Valkeries in a number films

Page 25: Widehorizons staff conference (day 2)

Here’s the plan• A ‘club’ that schools and children sign

up to• The club will take the form of a secure

online magazine with a couple of sub groups depending on age and interest

• Updated Quarterly• Back up what has been discussed in the

Widehorizons ‘Scrapbook’ plan

The spirit behind adventure

BEYOND THE HORIZONS

A Holistic Approach

Page 27: Widehorizons staff conference (day 2)

What it will include?• Tales of the Challenge of Adventure• Children writing in with their stories of adventure, challenges and fears they overcame while on a journey

at Widehorizons, with a prize for the best tale per category (age/SEN) but they have to officially enter!

• Thorr’s Earth Guardians• This is an environmental group who undertake a

project at school or in their local community to help the environment from habitat piles to woodland management.

Page 28: Widehorizons staff conference (day 2)

• The Dryad’s Climbers• Dryads are tree spirits, just as Tolkien had walking a

talking trees and hobbits climbing them, this is a chance to have your picture taking in a tree may be as a hobbit, and to find out more about the tree = Alex’s idea

• Tree Painting (on school property only) Connecting art with the environment and memories of the artist

• Inter Centre Pen Pals• Inter-centre connection with the people and places

in the each of the centre’s location• This would encourage links, communication and

visits to other centres

Page 29: Widehorizons staff conference (day 2)

Faith and Folklore CornerBritain is a multicultural country, but not everyone understands or wants

to understand, so by talking about what different faiths do in various season

• By telling the magazine what they will be doing and celebrating will help other cultures, religions and future society as a whole understand and realise that we are not all that different.

• Also in the myths from around the world there are tales of adventure, the question is how do those adventures relate to our visitor’s adventure?
