What is driving Business Continuity
Based on the various worldwide events that have occurred in the past four years, businesses have come to realize the importance of contingency planning as it relates to communication networks.
Organizations heavily depend on key business applications such customer relationship management (CRM), manufacturing resource planning (MRPII), and supply chain management (SCM) to name a few.
The importance of system and network availability has never been so critical to a company’s bottom line.
Every year accidents, and disasters impacting networks, cost business millions of dollars. Businesses are looking at ways to minimize risk and exposure at a cost effective price.

Contingency Services: Terminology
Business Continuity:• Company's ability to keep critical business processes functioning
despite temporary network disruptions or long-term outages. • "Seamless, “Always On,” High Availability, Automatic IP traffic
failover • Downtime is measured less than 1 minute
Disaster Recovery: • Those actions necessary to respond and restore network
connectivity and critical business functions following a catastrophic event due to natural or man-made activities.
• Downtime is measured in hours or days

Determine Level of Application Survivability
Organizations need to determine what level of application survivability is required, and what kind of solution would best be suited to address the specific departmental and organizational need. The results of the analysis will be used to identify the feasibility of selecting topologies that include:
Hot-standby backup network
Fault tolerant network
Combination of hot-standby backup and fault tolerant networks

Full Redundant Hot Standby
Two isolated networks that will each carry 100% of the total network load if the primary route experiences an outage.

Critical Application Recovery
A fault tolerant network topology carry part of the total network load at the same time. In event of outage the most critical applications will continue to run.

Why Satellite
Lessons learned from 9/11 and Katrina were to increase secondary sites to 170 miles. Satellite offers maximum flexibility to support geographically distributed alternative locations within a broad satellite footprint or globally via the LS backbone.
More dynamic Rapid deployment and readily available Low cost no additional assets (facilities, last mile, etc.), costs and
depreciative value Highly scalable and flexible to meet your business growth
requirements and not simply the current state Service levels Can support mobile recovery centers With Satellite connection can be established before employees reach
alternative site “cold” or “warm” without the overhead of a “hot” site and within minutes not hours or days.
