• Worked for a one man band in South Yarra

• Talk about a deep end

• Was poached to Hodges in Bentleigh

• Works as an assistant, then a Property Manager over three years

• Got an offer to move to Ray White Ashburton

• Joined as department head and BDM

Who’s this kid?• Developed rent roll from 50 to 250 in two years

• Team from 2 to 4

• Brand change to Buxton

• Moved to Jellis Craig Ivanhoe – same role

• Grew from 300 to 380 in twelve months

• Business sold to Nelson Alexander

• Moved to Biggin & Scott Prahran

• 1100 under management and team of 12

Why did I get into this?• Real estate seemed natural

• I was told there were heaps of chicks in property management

• I was told there was heaps of money

• If my sister could do it, I could

• Took the first opportunity that came my way

Why did I leave?

Why would I have stayed?• I wouldn’t have

• No culture

• No ethics

• No fun

Why did I move to Hodges?• Better company

• Bigger team

• More support and no one throwing things at me

• Structure and training

• A future

• Better remuneration (more money!)

Why would I have stayed?• More money

• The same opportunity

• Freedom and flexibility

• An office closer to home

Why did I move to Ray White?• Opportunity to run a department

• New Business meant I could write my own income

• Larger team

• New office still creating its culture

• Five minutes from home

• Structure and training

Why did I leave Buxton?• I loved what I was doing

• An opportunity to join “the” company

• Award winning office

• A lot more money

• Structure and training, or lack there of it

• The new brand wasn’t the right fit for me

Why would I have stayed?• I wouldn’t have

• The opportunity was too good

Why did I move to Jellis Craig?• The “right” move

• The best brand in my market place

• Had the right feel

• More money and better opportunities

• The office had already achieved the success

• A director I wanted to learn from

• Structure and training

• Buy in option

My next move – Was it a mistake?• Yes

• Rushed decision

• Best opportunity at the time

• Let a lot of people down

• I had to do the right thing for me

Why do I stay at Jellis Craig?• Communication is clear, proactive, honest and two way

• What is offered, is delivered

• Opportunities are around every corner – for everyone

• Focus around what is important to the team

• Training and development is based on feedback

Focusing on their why, not mine

Training and developing staff so they can leave, but treating them well so they won’t

Blindly expecting staff to stay
