Me and My story

• BSc (Biomed) 1998-2000• Med School 2001-2004

But why O and G?

• O and G chose me• I loved doing the job at junior levels• I delivered babies• The surgeries seemed to work• Those in the specialty get to advocate for

women’s health on an individual and population level

How did I go about getting on?

• Talked to my Director • Talked to other Consultants• Looked at the application form and process to

make sure I knew what was needed of me• Identified where I could make up ground• Made myself available for and commenced a

research project• Took advantage of the ‘anything else’ boxes on

the application form

Interview

• Practice, practice, practice• Asked others what sort of questions they were

asked• Sat in the shower and said answers out loud• Found a friendly face• Tried to have answers others might not have• Drew upon interesting experiences that I had

had

Collateral stuff

• Do your job, well• Be a nice person• Get on with your bosses, registrars, residents,

midwives, nurses, anaesthetists, wardies and your patients

• Follow up on your patients – it shows you care and people notice it
