The Myths of Safe Pesticides and GMOs

• The majority of GMO crops have been approved without adequate feeding trials

• The most recent study led by Professor Gilles-Eric Seralini found that both the GM maize and Roundup acted as endocrine disrupters and resulted in the females dying 2 -3 times more than the control animals. (Seralini et al 2014)

• This is the only life time feeding study done on GMOs

The RealityThe World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) gave glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) the second highest classification of:

Group 2A: Probably carcinogenic to humans

Group 2A is for substances where there is sufficient evidence of causing cancer in animals and limited studies in humans.

According to IARC, the 2A classification was because: ‘strong mechanistic evidence; for malathion and glyphosate, the mechanistic evidence provided independent support of

the 2A classification based on evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and experimental animals.’

The Myths of Safe GMOs

Carman et al. (2013) reported that a diet of GE corn and soy was associated with stomach inflammation in pigs.
