Weight Management
Obesity is a major public health concern because it is related to chronic health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, certain cancers and osteoarthritis
In Singapore, the number of people who are obese is growing. The percentage of obese adults between ages 18 to 69 increased from 6.9% in 2004 to 10.8% in 2010. These rising numbers show that obesity is an issue that must be addressed in Singapore.
Recommendations
a. Age between 18 to 69 years old b. BMI ranging from 23.0 to 37.4 (Refers to the Asian BMI guidelines. A BMI range of 25.0 39.9 should be applied to Non-Asian participants.) c. No heart disease, history of heart attack or stroke d. Pregnant women are not eligible to participate
Smoking Cessation
• Smoking has considerable impact on the health and wellbeing of employees.
• It leads to an increase in absenteeism and workplace productivity loss, amounting to additional expenses for the company.
• A local study by NUS showed that healthcare, absenteeism and loss of productivity from smoking-related diseases cost between $700 million and $800 million.
Workplaces can provide a supportive social environment conducive for quitting smoking.
Chronic Diseases• In Singapore, 1 in 4 persons has at least one
chronic disease such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or
• high blood cholesterol. These conditions can lead to serious consequences if not detected early and
• treated. Regular follow-ups with a doctor and adopting healthy lifestyle changes enable people with these conditions to continue to have a good quality of life
