CGS News Sunday School resumes Sept 11th and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program has prepared a new atrium to welcome our new three and four year olds! The front half of the Pre-K4 nursery has been requisitioned and transformed into a First Year Program designed to introduce the Catechesis to the new children as well as orient them for life in the main atria in subsequent years. The new atrium will be staffed by two Level I catechists on a rotating basis. The curriculum will include most of the first year lessons, but will not make use of lit candles nor glass materials, until the end of the year. The rear half of the room remains Pre-K4 nursery space—the two areas are separated by shelving with a gated pass through—and the atrium arrangement is flexible enough to convert back to nursery space when needed for larger events if additional space is needed. We are grateful to the nursery staff, Barbara Lewis and Margaret Trevino, for their cooperation with the CGS program in this new effort, which is experimental at this point. The new atrium’s proximity to the nursery is certainly an asset, as the open half-door allows nursery staff to meet insurance regulations with only one teacher present as well as allowing easy access to the nursery bathrooms. A downside could be the noise level coming from the nursery through the open half-door; we hope to remedy this when we can assign a second teacher later this year.
Save the Date! Dinner at Joe T’s on Oct 12 St. John’s annual Stewardship Dinner at Joe T Garcia’s is set for Wednesday, October 12th. Details will be mailed the first week in September.
