Hot TopicsThere is much talk these days about the “skills gap.” Employers are looking for skilled workers; employees that are work ready. We have worked tirelessly to make these workers available to support the area’s economic growth by partnering with Talent 2025, Discover Manufacturing, West Michigan Technology Talent, Michigan Works!, and others.
We are working with the newly established Construction Workforce Development Alliance to address the needs of the local construction industry. We continue to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County to ensure our students get hands-on training in the field.
Through funding provided by the U.S. Department of Labor’s TAACCCT grant the Michigan Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing was formed. GRCC purchased equipment and launched new Mechatronic training for Industrial Maintenance professionals using state-of-the-art technology. In 2015, this project will produce new curriculum in robotic welding, certified production technicians, and start a manufacturing readiness program.
This year our Medical Assistant program signed an agreement with Davenport University to provide articulation for our MA graduates interested in pursuing health administration, nursing degree, or medical assistant associate’s degree. Most recently our MA program became Financial Aid eligible, allowing us to not only provide the best in MA education, but also financial assistance.
