The word child is normally used to mean someone who is older than a baby but not yet a teenager

The very first article says that every person under the age of 18 should have the rights contained in the Convention

The age at which a person is allowed to marry , vote, get a full time job, leave home, enlist in the military or do other things usually thought of as reserved for adults, is not necessarily the same in all countries or in one country.

It would not have been realistic to require all the rights contained in the Convention, This is why Article 1 opens a loophole, saying that all person under the age of 18 have all rights contained in the Convention.

IN THE PHILIPPINES In the Philippines, a person is considered a child

until he or she reaches the age of majority, which is 18.

Under a law called the “Special Protection Act”, persons who are unable to care for themselves or to protect themselves from abuse or exploitation because of physical or mental disability are still considered children even after they reach the age of 18.

Before the enactment of the 1988 Family Code, boys could marry at the age of 16, and girls at 14. The Family Code has increased the minimum age for both to age 18.

However, one out of every 25 Filipino girls has a child before the age of 18.

The constitution says that the right to life must be protected from conception.
