supporting communities, growing existing businesses, attracting new businesses, and facilitating the development of a prepared workforce

• Industry has exploded over the past few years– Technology improvements have led to efficiency improvements in

turbines

• 2008 installations brought cumulative installed capacity in US to 25,170 MW– US now world leader in wind power installed capacity

• 8,300 MW installed in 2008– Accounts for 42% of new capacity installations

• 4,000 MW installed in 1st half of 2009• Credit crunch hit wind industry too

• Indirect – Electric linemen, planning management, etc.• Induced – Bank tellers, grocery workers, hotel operators, etc.

• Youth Outreach to Help Create a Workforce Pipeline for Oklahoma’s Green Economy

• Governor’s Council for Workforce & Economic Development outreach program to recruit 12 to 18 year olds into the field of engineering; video detailing the opportunities for this age group will be released later this year.

• Project Boomerang – www.OKBoomerang.com– targets select, skilled talent with ties to Oklahoma but who live out of

state. We call them “Elsewhere Oklahomans.” – Targets include engineers, accountants, management executives, and

others.
