WelcomeThank you for hosting a White Ribbon event! Whether

you’re hosting a morning tea, assembly, trivia night,

gala dinner or sporting event, you’re helping end men’s

violence against women in Australia.

We are so inspired by everything we’ve seen so far

happening in schools, workplaces and communities.

Sadly though, men’s violence against women is still a

prominent issue.

On average, one woman a week in Australia is killed by a current or former partner.

Bryant, W. & Bricknall, S. (2017). Homicide in Australia 2012-2014: National Homicide Monitoring Program report. Canberra: Australian Institute of Criminology. Retrieved from: https://bit.ly/2ozctxh.

You can help change this statistic. Whether it’s $100,

$1,000 or $10,000 – every dollar, and every empowered

individual, helps create a safer future.

To get you started, we’ve created this host kit full of tips,

ideas and checklists to help plan your event.

Thank you. It’s because of you we can createa future free from violence.

Kind regards,

The White Ribbon Events Team

• Personalise your event page. Update your event photo and event description to tell everyone why you’re passionate about White Ribbon. The more people connect with your story, the more likely they’ll be to attend or donate.

• Set an ambitious goal. If you aim for the stars, you’ll inspire people to give! Kickstart your fundraiser, and make the first donation to your own page to encourage others to give similarly.

• Spread the word. Include your fundraising page link in your email signature, put up flyers, and ask to have your fundraising page included in the office newsletter.

• Get social. Email everyone - family, friends, work colleagues, clients, neighbours, teammates! Share your fundraising page on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

Why fundraising is importantFundraising is key to White Ribbon being able to continue our primary prevention work across Australia. We always appreciate it when our hosts can incorporate fundraising into their events.

How to add fundraising to your event:

• Offering a percentage of ticket sales as a donation

• Raffles and auctions

• Canteen proceeds

The possibilities are endless! Just ensure you stay within the White Ribbon guidelines outlined in our event FAQs on our website.

Who should I reach out to?

When reaching out for support, it’s important to iden-tify your circles of influence – the groups of people you have a connection to. Think about family, friends, co-workers, special interest groups or sports groups you’re a part of. Then go one step further and look at who your friends, family and contacts may work for, or groups they are a part of. Maybe someone you’re relat-ed to works for a local sporting group or organisation that would consider supporting you. You never know until you ask!

$27provides a host kit for event hosts just like you.

$79gets us into your community to talk to men.

$155trains key supporters with skills and confidence to create change in their communities.

$500brings White Ribbon workshops to regional areas, to help combat increased levels of violence.

$5,000enables two school leaders to complete the Breaking the Silence schools professional development program.

$20,000supports 15 schools to incorporate respectful relationships training in their curriculum, reaching over 9,000 students.

Case Studies

I tell my story not because it’s unique, but because it’s not.

Angela Jay | White Ribbon Australia

Indigenous women are 32x more likely to be hospitalised due to family violence than non-indigenous women.

The White Ribbon Youth Ambassadors Project

The White Ribbon Youth Ambassadors Program empowered and educated young men and women in Benalla and Albury-Wodonga to become active bystanders and community leaders in the prevention of violence against women and children. Participants attended a number of educational workshops, participated in community awareness events and developed a series of videos to educate other young people about technology facilitated abuse.

Angela Jay

Through her work as a White Ribbon Advocate, Angela promotes gender equality, respectful relationships and the importance of men taking a stand in ending men’s violence against women. She’s participated in two treks with White Ribbon; raising $80,193 during Trek for Respect Larapinta, and another $4,677 during the Trek for Respect Kokoda.

Total raised: $84,870

Bli Bli Unite Fun Run & Walk 2018

During a community event supported by the Sunshine Coast White Ribbon Committee, a woman approached one of the members to talk about an incident of violence that had happened to her daughter the night before. The member referred her to police; the matter was followed up that afternoon and a domestic violence order taken out. The survivor was safe and the perpetrator was held to account for his actions. Having a presence in your community can make a real difference!

Total raised: $10,000

Case Studies

Impact case study – Inverell White Ribbon Community Pilot Project

The Inverell White Ribbon Community Pilot Project was developed in response to community concern over the high rate of domestic violence incidents reported in Inverell NSW in 2016. Driven by Inverell Shire Council, the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet and White Ribbon, this 18 month project brought together many organisations to develop a whole of community strategy for prevention.

Main highlights of the proect:

• Benchmark and follow-up community awareness surveys conducted.

• All male public toilets in Inverell CBD promote Inverell’s

• stand as a White Ribbon Community and what men can do to stand up and speak out.

• All female public toilets in the Inverell CBD promote local services available to women who may be experiencing violence.

• Annual White Ribbon community march organised to celebrate White Ribbon Day.

• Every school in Inverell participated in the White Ribbon Schools Program – Breaking the Silence. A further ten neighbouring schools also participated.

• Recruitment of seven men in Inverell to the White Ribbon Ambassador program.

• Awareness and education pieces featured in local media year-round.

Overall, this pilot project was a powerful vehicle for empowering community-led responses to violence against women. This project successfully developed a framework that was not only used by the Inverell community, but can also be replicable for application across other Australian communities.
