Fridays 10am - 1pm, May 18 - Jun 22 Meghan Krauss $235

DRAWING AS MARK MAKING will explore experimental approaches to mark-making as the foundation for drawing through creative work with gesture, alternative tools and diverse drawing materials. Each week the instructor will expand on the range and variety of marks made through exercises and assignments that focus on line, value, texture, pattern and composition variance. You will develop a large repertoire of personal marks that can be used in many types of drawings. Tuesdays 2pm - 5pm, May 15 - Jun 19 Connie Morey $235

ABSTRACT PAINTING: STRUCTURE & EXPRESSION focuses on the ways artists approach the abstract image including using underlying structures such as the grid, architecture, nature, symbols as a starting point. Through the process of combining structure and gesture, you will discover your own personal approaches to abstraction. Tuesdays 10am - 1pm, May 15 - Jun 19 Wendy De Gros $235 OIL BASICS provides a great introduction for beginner painters to work with oils and for those planning to switch from acrylics to oil. You will learn about brush handling, colour mixing, glazing and scumbling, as well as how to prepare supports. You will learn how oil paint technology has progressed to the point where it is considered more environmentally safe than acrylics. An assortment of painting subjects are covered such as still life, landscape and the figure. Some painting experience is recommended. Thursdays 2pm - 5pm, May 17 - Jun 21 Neil McClelland $235

PAINTING: GEOMETRIC ABSTRACTION follows the roots of early cubist-inspired abstraction up through mid-century minimalism)to more contemporary precedents The unifying theme is the contrast of the organic character of making a painting with a search for form that often recalls the designed environment. PAINTING: GESTURE AND COLOUR teaches the fundamentals of painting with an emphasis on colour, line and form. PAINTING: NATURE AND THE SUBLIME is based on landscape and nature and examines the more abstract qualities of painting. Of particular focus is looking at plein air painting in a contemporary context and understanding its possible role in today’s world. What stands out for you about this location? Why? This workshop will cover different ways of working with video as a medium, including shooting with a camera and stop-motion animation and will provide introductions and demonstrations on both the technical and conceptual aspects of creating video.
