BE OPEN TO GOD’S CALL
The parable of the ten bridesmaids used to strikeus as unreasonably harsh. Why, were the "wise" ones so unhelpful to the "foolish"? Could they not have shared their oil?
Further reflection, however, brings to light some other aspects of the story. In some respects the ten are all the same. All of them fall asleep. Later on, all are called to accompany the bridegroom into the wedding banquet. What distinguishes five of them as wise, however, is that they have come prepared. When the call is heard, therefore, they are the ones who are ready and able to respond. The others are foolish because, though they hear the same call they are not in a state of readiness to answer that summons.
Note the words "wise," "ready," and "awake." We hear in them echoes of the first reading's description of wisdom: she is given to those "who love her," "who seek her," who "keeps vigil." In our efforts to be faithful disciples we need to be open to God's call, even---or especially---in places of darkness and unexpectedness . God unders tands our weaknesses and our failings. The disposition of our hearts is what makes all the difference.
News flash! Christmas is coming early this year. Yes, it is that time of year again, a n d w e n e e d t o s t a r t gathering food and gifts for our Christmas Basket program. Next weekend, November 18-19, we will be passing out grocery bags for everyone to fill with nonperishable food items. Anyone wishing to donate money can write a check to the Knights of Columbus 7832, and then drop it in the collection baskets or mail it to Rudy Mirelez, 308 E. Adrian St., Blissfield, MI 49228.
Giving Tree ornamental tags will be available next weekend for the purchase of children's gifts. Please remember the older children appreciate gifts as much as the younger ones. Wrapped presents with tags attached as well as all food donations need to be brought to either church by 9:00 AM, Friday, December 8. Thank you to everyone who supports this worthy cause.
Good news! Your prayers, fasts, and sacrifices helped save 492 babies from abortion during our recent 40 Days for Life campaign. For more information, please visi t the Pro-Life News Source at www.lifenews.com.
Welcome Don and Marie Kielpinski to the Knights of Columbus. Congratulations Don for the a t ta inment of 1ST Degree Knighthood.
Please take a moment this weekend to thank the veterans for their service and pray for all of our nation's veterans and their families.

Anointing is one of the seven sacraments and is for anyone who is seriously sick, whether that is illness of mind, body or spirit, weakened by age, or facing surgery or other medical treatment.
Fr. Jeff will anoint anyone who desires at all masses the weekend of November 25-26. Those who wish to be anointed should try to sit at the end of a pew to receive the sacrament.
The Sacrament of Anointing can be celebrated with one person at a time. This can be done in your home or the hospital. It can also be done in church any weekday or Sunday during or after mass. Anyone who is ill or facing surgery should call the parish office to make arrangements.
