Experienced coaches will engage children in exciting play targeted at develop-ing fundamental skills and fostering a love of sports. Clinics meet Monday through Thursday, 9:30am -1:30pm. The goal of this age group is for the partic-ipant to learn and practice the necessary skills which the sport is based on. Developmental/progressive skills in all sports clinics are designed for the partici-pant to grow, learn and practice the skills on a day-by-day basis.

SWIM LESSONS (SEASONAL)

OUR PARENT AND CHILD SWIM LESSON PROGRAM Our parent and child aquatic program is designed to teach basic water safety skills to children, and teach parents/guardians how to facilitate the learning of those skills dur-ing and outside of swim class. Our aquatic team is dedi-cated to providing a fun and positive environment for the children and parents. OUR YOUTH SWIM LESSON PROGRAM Our youth aquatics program is dedicated to teaching stu-dents personal water safety, stroke development, water sports and games, rescue and personal growth skills. Through a student-centered approach, our program is taught in groups based on age as well as skill which allows children to learn at their won pace with their peers and the guidance of our aquatic team.

SWIM TEAM - LAKEWOOD-LIGHTNING (SEASONAL)

The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA Lightning team offers a stimulating, enjoyable summer program that runs from June through August and stresses stroke technique, endurance, sportsmanship, goal-setting and leadership. We strive to do all this in an environment that embraces the YMCA’s philosophy of building spirit, mind and body for all. We believe these qualities serve our swimmers well in the pool, but also in the classroom and in life. The season begins in June with a weekly practice schedule of Monday through Thursday 5:30 to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 9:00 to 10:00 am. In addition to weekly practices there will be (3) summer meets, located at the Camp & Outdoor Center.

YOUTH DANCE

BALLET Ballet is the foundation of all dance. Ballet teaches technique, discipline, structure and etiquette. These are tools that help students learn all forms of dance easier. Posture, flexibility, strength and grace are just a few of the wonderful benefits of ballet. It is recom-mended that students take Ballet in conjunction with other classes. Students develop the fundamentals of ballet in a nurturing and fun environment. This class builds basic ballet/tap terminology to be used during floor work, barre and combinations.

HIP HOP Hip Hop is a popular choice at the YMCA! The focus is on body movements coinciding with the beat and rhythm of hip hop or pop music. It improves flexibility, develops balance and assists in coordinating muscles.

JAZZ Classes are an introduction to jazz dance focusing on timing and coordination; forced arch; and use of the plié. Progression of class consists of pas de bourree, jazz walks, turning jazz walks, passé balance, batte-ments and jumps across the floor. A combination of movements will be given at the last section of class for practice and performance.

MODERN Our Modern classes are for students new to dance as well as experienced dancers new to modern dance style. Modern gives the dancer a more accessible ap-proach to movement, which follows the natural curve and flow of the body. This class combines elements of modern, focusing on principles of fall and recovery and control and balance. PAY IT FORWARD As the leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y works side-by-side with our neighbors every day to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. To do our important work, the Y relies on support from members, donors, volunteers and community leaders. When you are involved with the Y, you help bring about lasting personal and social change. Whether you want to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve your or your family’s health and well-being, or give back and support your neighbors, your involvement with the Y will positively impact those in your community. HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE Y? There are many different ways to support the Y. You can help through financial giving through our annual campaign, a capital campaign or our Heritage Society. You can also give-in-kind, volunteer your time, and give online. MAKE A GIFT The YMCA Is a Vital Part of the Community Funds raised for the Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA provide direct financial assistance for children, families and individuals to participate in their YMCA. From our summer camps and swim programs, to teen leadership, the YMCA provides a comprehensive array of health and human services. As one of the largest and oldest charitable organizations in the region, you can rest assured that your designated gift remains in your community. SPECIAL EVENTS The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA holds many special events each year, which include an annual golf tournament, annual spelling bee as well as spin-a-thons and zumba-a-thons. Each dollar contributed the YMCA Annual Campaign goes directly towards making Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA programs, services and membership available to those in need. By participating in one or all of our Annual Special Events you will enable the YMCA to continue to enrich the lives of more than 3,500 youth and families in our own community . On behalf of the YMCA Board of Managers and Staff, we thank you in advance for your continued support to our organization. For more information on upcoming Special Event dates please call 203 445 9633. OTHER WAYS TO GIVE The generosity of others is at the core of our existence. Not everyone is able to make a financial contribution to the organization, but everyone has the opportunity to get involved. When you volunteer at the Y, you take an active role in bringing about meaningful, endur-ing change in your own community. As a volunteer, you’ll be working with other caring, committed people who want to make a difference in your community. To get involved, call 203 445 9633. VOLUNTEER What can I do? Make a big difference! Volunteer opportunities at the Central Connecticut Coast YMCAs run the gamut, from one-time commitments such as helping at a special event to longer-term opportunities such as coaching youth and teen sports and tutoring youth. Benefits of Volunteering with the YMCA The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA offers volunteers a chance to improve the lives of children and families and to make our communities stronger. In addition to feeling great about your efforts, volunteers have the opportunity to:

Experience personal growth

Give back to the community through service to others

Explore and/or discover a hidden passion

Expand knowledge and skills through training

Fulfill community service requirements for school credit

Develop new relationships and make friends

Gain community service experience to add to college, scholarship and employment applications

Learn, grow and HAVE FUN! Volunteers are critically important to carrying out our mission, so we ask our program volunteers to go through an application and screening process similar to that of our paid staff members. This process ensures that the best fit is made between the new volunteer and the program they are matched with, while also ensuring their safety.
