For Palestinians, “End of Occupation”= End of Israel—the land being given back to the Palestinians to control. They consider the Israelis to

be “occupying” the Palestinian land and do not

acknowledge Israel as a country.

History Check: After WWI, The land of Israel

became a British Mandate and was given

to the Arabs to create the country of Palestine.

After WWII, the same land was given to the Jews as a homeland and was named

Israel….the conflict over the land continues…

Following WWII, the British try to make the Arabs happy by

creating Transjordan(mandate System)

The land was then taken over by rebels & the British plan failed

The birth of Israel• On November 29, 1947

the Jews were to be granted what appears on the map in blue. The plan granted the Jews in Palestine just over 56% of the area at a time when they owned less than 7% of the land and constituted approx. one-third of the population.

• In Israel, Palestinians are second class citizens– Restricted movement– 40% of land owned by

Palestinian Israelis confiscated for Jewish development projects

– Israeli government preferentially targets health, education, public works, municipal and economic development to Jews rather than Arabs equally

The Western world thinks that “end of occupationin the West Bank and Gaza” - is an issue of “disputed territories.” “End of occupation” usually means something very different to the Palestinians.
