Why do people dump?

Laziness and expense to dispose of things properly

Doesn’t cost dumpers much

Nobody gets caught

Dumpers are very difficult to identify – need a lot of evidence

They don’t care about the consequences for the environment and Council

Where to from here…?

Zero Waste SA with key stakeholders (EPA,KESAB, Illegal Dumping Working Group) to determine best way to assist Local Government and Charitable organisations in Illegal Dumping Prevention.

Hard look at what we actually want (decreased amount if illegal dumping), how we are going to get there, what time and resources we are going to invest in prevention?

Focus on actually catching offenders (not just empty threats on signs)

Need to capture data to accurately determinecostshot spotstrendsbest combination of prevention methods
