THE WE MOVEMENTWE is a movement. Comprised of individuals who care. We exist for one reason, to make
the world a better place.
We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced”
-MALALA YOUSAFZAI, AT WE DAY
WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?Me Into WEWe are a movement comprised of confident and unique individuals. We thrive on respect and collaboration. Our strength lies in the uniqueness of each of us. We are capable of doing more together than any one of us could do alone. We Are One We believe in showing gratitude for what we have by making an impact in the world. Embracing the positive
makes us all stronger. When we think as one. Act as one. We are one.
We Are the ChangeWe are defined by our daily actions. We know that small things add up to great change. Our examples to
others will define us. Because, WE starts with me.
We Are A CommunityWe are involved with each other in a global connection. With our family, with our communities, with the
world. We ask what else can I do? We look for any opportunity to make a difference.
I Am WEWe believe in the transformative power of individuals acting together. Our daily efforts will be ongoing, long term and lasting. A better world starts today with the actions I choose. I am WE.
THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS
Dear WE Day California Supporters,
We are deeply humbled by your passion and commitment to our
cause. With the support of extraordinary educators and partners, we have been able to achieve tremendous heights.
We are so grateful to our founding Co-Chair Stephanie Argyros for helping us bring WE Day to Southern California and for going above and beyond to make WE Day California an empowering and defining day for youth.
A huge thank you to Co-Chair Jeff Skoll for his longtime support
of WE Day nationally and our honorary Co-Chair Charlize Theron for believing in the power young people have to change the world. We would also like to thank Magic Johnson, Gavin Newsom and Jennifer Siebel Newsom—among our founding supporters in Northern California—for their continued engagement in the WE Day movement.
Finally, we’d like to extend a thank you to our amazing volunteers for their unwavering energy and enthusiasm.
As we look to expand our domestic programming and strengthen our partnerships with local schools and students, we feel incredibly
confident having you by our side. You are enabling us to reach more youth than ever before and to spread the message that together, we can change the world.
In the coming years, our goal is to continue supporting youth empowerment both locally and globally and to inspire caring, socially responsible leaders who create lasting impact on their communities—here at home, and around the world.
Thank you again for your continued support.

Craig & Marc KielburgerCo-Founders of WE Day
LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDERSDear Friends and Supporters,
We are thrilled to announce that WE Day is returning to California, where we
will be marking our inaugural event in Los Angeles! We’re honored to celebrate the nearly 225,000 young change makers from 872 schools who are creating a positive impact in their local and global communities. The impact that we’ve made together through WE Day and the year-long educational program WE Schools has been deeply meaningful, and we are so grateful for your dedicated support and friendship.
The WE Schools program provides educators and students with a
full calendar of campaign ideas, educational resources and service learning curriculum, increasing academic engagement, improving college and workplace readiness and encouraging active citizenship. In the process, young people across North America and the UK support 1,000+ causes and contribute $60 million worth of social value through their efforts. So much of this is made possible because of your continued championing.
Through WE Schools, students gain an understanding of the root causes of pressing issues such as hunger and poverty, and explore what they can do to make a difference. By committing to at least one local and
one global action to improve their community and the world, they earn their way to WE Day and achieve their learning goals.
In the following pages, we invite you to read about the milestones you have helped us achieve and take a look at what’s in store for the upcoming year.
Thank you for helping us change the world—today, and every day of the year.
Be the change,
DOMESTICALLY, WE inspire, educate and equip young people to take action in their local and global communities.
GLOBALLY, WE empower international communities and their members to lift themselves out of poverty through holistic, sustainable international development.
AS A SOCIAL ENTERPRISE, WE provide consumers with products and experiences that make the world a better place while supporting Free The Children’s work.

7xYOUTH ARE The WE Schools Learning Framework is the educational foundation for every resource we provide—from
lesson plans to campaigns—all grounded in current academic theories in service-learning and 21st-century learning practices.
Our resources include:• Motivational speakers• Monthly campaigns tied to causes• WE Schools coordinator• Service track via the WE Day app• Professional development for teachers• WE Day tickets• Curriculum resources
Our WE Schools resources provide ways for schools to partner with a sister school in a developing country. Through the WE Villages program, students have the opportunity to learn about sustainable development and can also opt to support the community through fundraising efforts.
Guided in-school by educators, the WE Schools program is designed to increase students’ academic engagement, active citizenship, and university and workplace readiness through targeted learning tools and resources. Within each step of the WE Schools program, students achieve their learning goals through engagement with WE Schools resources, which develop core skills.
Through service-based learning, WE Schools engages young people to develop critical skills for success:

Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy is a public charter high school located in Los Angeles, California serving students from the South Los Angeles and Watts communities. With the mission to build an environment of inclusivity and sense of community within the school, WE Day joins to help empower the Alain LeRoy Locke student body to continue fostering a positive school environment.

OPERATION PROGRESS The youth at Operation Progress understand the impact positive actions can have on a community. Five of them recently traveled on a volunteer trip to Kenya, sponsored by WE Day co-chairs Steve Robinson and Janet Crown. But the young people are just as passionate about their own community. To uplift homeless women living in downtown LA, they participated in the #HashtagLunchbag movement and made bagged lunches to support the Downtown Women’s Center. Every year, this shelter serves 4,000 women through a day center, a health center, permanent housing units, and education and employment programs. To make sure their message of positivity came through loud and clear, students packed each lunch with an encouraging message.
CHRISTA MCAULIFFE HIGH SCHOOL
The students at Christa McAuliffe High School understand what it means to overcome barriers to make a difference in the lives of others. The small school, located at the Challenger Memorial Youth Probation Center in Los Angeles County, is dedicated to sharing the power of service-learning with other schools in their area. They were first inspired to take action after a visit from ME to WE Speaker Spencer West.“I have never seen them so riveted. Many of the boys hugged him or shook his hand and said how much they appreciated his story,” said a school administrator. “I just want you to know how happy and excited I am to be in partnership with Free The Children. It is exactly what we needed to take our program to the next level and I know we are going to do life-changing work with the boys”.

SPOTLIGHT ON:STEPHANIE ARGYROS
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I can’t think of anything more hopeful than young people having the tools they need to
make the world a better place. This message is at the heart of WE Day—a movement I’m proud to be a part of and witness first-hand with my own children. It is inspiring that they are also a part of something that is bigger than they are.
From a humble beginning in Toronto to stadiums filled with like-minded individuals across Canada, the US and the UK,
WE Day is motivating hundreds of thousands of youth to shift the world from “me” to “we.”
I am so grateful for the educators who are passionate about leading their students through WE Schools. With your help, the yearlong educational programming encourages young people to discover their unique gifts and take action on issues they’re passionate about, both at home and abroad.
Our achievements were made possible because of the generosity
As a mother I am proud that my children are a part of the WE Day movement—a movement that encourages them to think big and take action on the world’s most pressing issues.

LOCAL CHANGE HEROES
Coming from an area known for gangs, violence and drugs, Raul Lopez wanted to show his community there’s a better way.
“I took the courage one day to talk to the teens and try to show them the positive side in life,” says Raul. “I believe in the domino effect. If you spread love to someone they will do the same.”
Raul could see that his words were resonating, so he and his brother began work on a documentary—Young Minds Grow—to capture the stories of youth in his neighborhood and prove that change was possible.
RAUL LOPEZPersonal transformation is something Raul knows first-hand. He had his own life changed in the summer of 2015 when he was sponsored by National WE Day Co-Chairs Steve Robinson and Janet Crown to go on a ME to WE Volunteer Trip to rural Kenya and worked alongside members of the local community to dig trenches for a hospital’s new surgical wing.
“Throughout my life I have dealt with depression and loneliness. My trip empowered me to be a person I never saw inside me,” says Raul. “I used to complain about how little I had here in Los Angeles. We were always worried about money and food, but now I feel like I have so much in my life.”
Raul sat courtside at an LA Clippers game with his WE Day hero Tyrese Gibson, who also grew up in South Central LA. Like Tyrese, Raul strives to be a positive role model for his school and community through service.
A special thanks to our National WE Day Co-Chairs Steve Robinson and Janet Crown for sponsoring this trip.
At the Archer School for Girls, student council never stays still when they see an opportunity to make an impact in their school and Southern California community.• Students led a school-wide food drive and challenged grades
to compete and collect the most food to create mosaics and sculptures from their cans.
• Student council made signs to decorate students’ lockers and show their gratitude for their peers and school community.
• In November and December, the girls bought gifts for families in need during the holidays and sold candygrams to raise $400 for a local charity.
• For “Philanthropy Phebruary,” students ran a blood drive and a book drive, made Valentine cards for a seniors’ home, organized a clothing drive and held a “No Child Eats Alone” lunch to promote inclusivity.
ARCHER SCHOOL FOR GIRLS
Travis Ranch Middle School, part of the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District, has been participating in the WE Schools program for three years. According to students, the program has been “life-changing” and is helping them build the “foundation of a strong community.”
Seventy students strong, the WE Schools group is a force to be reckoned with and were very busy this year, taking on four WE Schools campaigns:
• Their WE Scare Hunger drive raised 1,444 canned food items, as well as cash donations.• Tackling homelessness in their community through WE Won’t Rest, they collected 900+ warm clothes,
shoes, blankets, scarves, hats, which they donated to a local homeless shelter.• Using rafiki bracelets handmade by mamas in Kenya, the group has already raised $200 in support of
health projects in Sierra Leone.• In February, they collected 580 stuffed animals for children living in poverty.• They are looking forward to launching their WE Are Silent campaign in May, their largest campaign
every year!

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE LA CLIPPERSThis year, WE Day and the LA Clippers introduced WE Day Wednesday! We joined together to inspire one million hours of service in our community and honored one new WE Day hero every Wednesday—an exceptional youth who takes their passion for changing the world to the next level. We are so proud to have been able to shine a spotlight on this select group of young people for giving back to their local and global communities by raising awareness on important issues like homelessness and hunger. We’d like to thank everyone involved, but especially Steve and Connie Ballmer, our founding co-chair of WE Day and WE Schools in the Pacific Northwest, Gillian Zucker, President, Business Operations, LA Clippers, and the LA Clippers Foundation, who have been instrumental in making this a reality.
