A SUPER BOWL MARKETINGLESSON FOR

ENTREPRENEURS

Page 2: What Super Bowl Week Taught Entrepreneurs About Marketing!

Super Bowl XLVIII featured two of the premier quarterbacks in the game. One is a certain first ballot Hall of Famer, and the other has led his team to the Super Bowl in only his second year, and has won more games in

his first two years than any quarterback in NFL History.

But who has been (by far) the most talked about player in the

Super Bowl this week?

Page 3: What Super Bowl Week Taught Entrepreneurs About Marketing!

Granted, he, in my opinion is not only the best cornerback in the game, but probably one of the best defensive players, period. But we all know that

whenever a football game is being discussed, particularly the Super Bowl, the conversation always starts with the quarterbacks!

SIMPLE ANSWER: A 25 second interview!

How is a defensive player able to generate so much interest and attention?

After making a spectacular play to secure a victory, and, consequently, a trip to the Super Bowl for the Seahawks, an excited Sherman

declared himself the best corner in the game (which, as I mentioned earlier, I agree with) and called San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree “sorry” and “mediocre”. Almost instantly, people around the

world were tweeting about this interview, it was talked about and debated on ESPN by almost every reporter employed by the network,

and Sherman became the most talked about person, not just athlete, in America for about a week. If that wasn’t enough, I turn on

the TV, and he’s featured in a new commercial. People and companies actually made millions of dollars off of a post game

interview!

Most of us obviously do not have the luxury of having a microphone and camera in front of our faces with millions of people watching, but we all

advertise, and we all have an audience.

We have to give people a reason to connect with us.

The next time you place an ad, or submit a post to your Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn accounts, take a look at 3 or 4  of your competitors. Chances

are, their ads are almost identical.

Do the direct opposite!

We have to stand out from the crowd!

You’re not only selling your product or service, or even your company, but you’re selling yourself!

YOU are your brand! When people connect with you, they will

inevitably do business with you.
