What kind of institution might distribute your

media product and why?

Universal A distributor we considered for our film was ‘Universal Films’. It is a successful American film studio in which has distributed a great amount of internationally known films such as ‘Dumber and Dumber’ ‘American Pie’ as well as released similar films to ours like ‘Kick Ass’ and ‘Scott Pilgrim’ in which we have researched. Our genre focuses on superhero comedy and targets a teenage audience. Universal would be helpful as our distributor as they are already familiar with genre ‘comedy superhero’ from distributing ‘Scott Pilgrim’ and there for will have skills and professional advice in ways to make our comic edits all the more effective for our audience ad film. As Universal use a wide range of genres from action, fantasy, crime and more which may target different audiences they would be suitable as a distributor as it shows they are adaptable as a distributor and will not struggle with different types of films. Due to Universal success our budget for the film would increase greatly which could better our film for the use of mise-en-scene and editing.

Dimensions Dimensions is another distributor we considered as they are also very successful and they have released many spoof comedy films like ‘Scary Movie’ and ‘Superhero Movie’ as well as released several superhero films like ‘Spy Kids’. Dimensions film would be a suitable distributor as of 1992 the company decided to only distribute mainly horrors, comedy and action genre films aiming most of their audience at teenagers and young adults. Due to Dimensions rate of success and recognition our budget would increase which could better our film for the use of mise-en-scene and editing.

Warp‘Warp Films’ was our final distributor in which we researched. It is a small independent film company and is located in Sheffield making it convenient as it is local for us. They have distributed unique and risky films like ‘Submarine’ ‘Four Lions’ and ‘This is England’ which focus on the comedy genre as well associating with others like drama and romance. Due to having a smaller scale of recognition, budgets wouldn’t be as high as Dimensions and Universal there for could limit us to restrictions for example simplistic comic effects, however our film uses our small scale budget to humour our audience and there for the use of simplistic cameras and location wouldn’t effect our original idea where as having a high budget may make changes in quality of the costumes, props and more.
