What is this, and why am I here?

This is an Informational Meeting. This meeting will help you to decide if you would like to eventually be a part of our Core Group.

A Core Group is a group of people who believe in the vision of the church, and will commit to praying, giving, and living out the vision of the church.

Why Plant a Church?• 85% of churches have either plateaued or are declining

(Malphurs, Planting Growing Churches)

• As churches grow older, they become less and less willing to change (Murray, Church Planting)

• Most growing churches are “seeker-driven,” meaning they are targeting unchurched people

• Most growing churches are “attractional” instead of “missional”

• Most growing churches neglect doctrine and theology

• Most growing churches are not making growing disciples

Page 6: What is this, and why am I here? This is an Informational Meeting. This meeting will help you to decide if you would like to eventually be a part of our.

Why Plant a Church?• New churches have about a 10% conversion rate; older churches have a 3% conversion rate.

• Church growth has not kept up with population growth in America. In fact, churches have grown 50% since 1900, but the population has quadrupled.

• There are 120 million secular undiscipled people in America, making the U.S. the largest mission field in the Western hemisphere, and making the U.S. the fifth largest mission field in the world. (George Hunter)

Why Plant A Church in Tulsa?

• Tulsa has been plagued with bad theology for many years. At the center of the problem is word-faith theology, or, “Health and Wealth gospel.” (Jesse Duplantis, Kenneth Hagin, Benny Hinn, Oral Roberts)

•Tulsa is the heart of the “word-faith” movement (Rhema Bible College, Oral Roberts University)

• Tulsa is not known for its orthodoxy. In fact, few people that I have spoken to seem to even have a grasp of basic theological and doctrinal themes.

What is a “Missional” Church? The Great Commission

“Go and make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you (The greatest of the commandments being: Love the Lord your God with all of who you are, and love your neighbor as yourself).” THIS is the mission.

What is a “Missional” Church?

“Establishing a Missional Church means that you plant a church that’s part of the culture you’re seeking to reach.” (Ed Stetzer, Planting Missional Churches)

What is a “Missional” Church?

• Missional is different than being Mission-Minded. The difference is that to be missional, you must see yourself as a missionary in your own zip code, learning and adapting to the culture around you while remaining biblically sound. It is living in the world, but not being of it.

Case study: Halloween

What is a “Missional” Church?

“North America needs to be treated as a mission field in the same way that we in the West have approached much of the rest of the world for the past several centuries.”

Mission Statement

“Equipping Gospel-Motivated People to Live Incarnational Lives”

What Would The Church Look Like?

What Would The Church Look Like?

Mission Statement“Equipping Gospel-Motivated People to Live Missional Lives”

• Equipping People- making disciples through one-on-one and small group relationships

This is one of the most fundamental aspects of the church. This church does not believe that true life change will happen in either the main service, nor will much life change happen in “life groups.” We believe that the most impacting life change will happen in discipleship. Whether that is in a small group or one-on-one, discipleship will be one major way we measure success. It is in discipleship relationships that lives change.

What Would The Church Look Like?

Mission Statement“Equipping Gospel-Motivated People to Live Missional Lives”

• “Gospel-Motivated”-- We will not be religious, legalistic, or moralistic, but instead, our faith and trust in the God of the Gospel will motivate our behavior and morals

We believe that theological and doctrinal beliefs are the foundations that cause people to act and think the way they do; therefore, we will work hard to lay theological and doctrinal foundations that are rooted in orthodoxy and the Gospel, which will cause our people to live radical lives. We WILL NOT simply “do church;” rather, we will live lives motivated by the Gospel.

What Would The Church Look Like?

Mission Statement“Equipping Gospel-Motivated People to Live Missional Lives”

• Live Missional Lives- Every person is called to be a missionary in his/her sphere of influence.

Our church will not be satisfied with numerical growth (or marketing strategies aimed at numerical growth); rather, because of our unwavering commitment to transformed lives, we will choose to live out the Great Commission by becoming missionaries in the culture where God has placed us. This is a radically different way of living, and it requires tremendous commitment, and results in tremendous joy.

Page 20: What is this, and why am I here? This is an Informational Meeting. This meeting will help you to decide if you would like to eventually be a part of our.

We desire to be incarnational rather than attractional.

We desire to be about mission over marketing.

We desire to fight for depth and not be satisfied with width.

We desire sacrifice over entitlement.

What About My Kids? This church will commit 100% to making church an enjoyable, learning experience for children. Kids 6 and up will be able to sit with their parents in the service; children 5 and under will have kid’s church during worship. Eventually, we want jr. high/ sr. high ministries, but it will take a while before we’re ready for that.

What are the needs?

Financial- Obviously, the church cannot make it unless people give. One of our biggest needs is to hire another pastor to handle the administrative needs and the childcare needs. Therefore, 2 salaries, plus benefits (like healthcare), sound equipment, rent, etc. will cost approximately $12,000 per month.

Page 25: What is this, and why am I here? This is an Informational Meeting. This meeting will help you to decide if you would like to eventually be a part of our.

What are the needs?

Prayer Needs- If this church is going to be a Christ-exalting, kingdom-furthering, disciple-making church, then the enemy will surely do everything in his power to thwart the church from accomplishing these things.

Page 26: What is this, and why am I here? This is an Informational Meeting. This meeting will help you to decide if you would like to eventually be a part of our.

What are the needs?

Committed Support- We need to know who’s on our team! If you believe in what we’re doing, commit to helping us further God’s kingdom by building His church!

How Can You Be a Part?If you dream of a church like this, then prayerfully consider joining our core group. This group will commit to pray, give, and support ethos church.
