MAIZE FOUNDATION

In recent years, Richard Maize has devoted much of his time to a program within the Jewish Federation called the Youth Development Learning Initiative mentoring youths who want to become involved in the real estate community. He has donated thousands of dollars to the program as well as being directly involved with mentees for which he has received numerous awards.

In addition to mentorship programs, Richard also spends time downtown helping the homeless community. 4 or 5 times a year Richard goes to Downtown Los Angeles and purchases hundreds of hoodies and blankets and directly distributes them with his family to those in need on what is known as “Skid Row”. It has become an important tradition for him and his family.

THE SUEDE JACKETJohn told Richard that he takes the money he gets from charitable strangers each day and uses $1 to shower at the local YMCA, sometimes even washing his clothes in the shower when he could. After chatting a while with John, Richard remembered the suede jacket that he had kept in his car waiting for the right person to give it to. He asked John if he would like it, John replied that he would try it on, but didn’t want to take something that he may have no use for.
