What is sustainable development?
• The Problem: we are using more natural resources than Earth can re-produce -> our way of life is unsustainable.
• Sustainable development is: satisfying the needs of present generations so that future generations can fulfil their own needs
-> to live in way that is benefitial to economy, society and environment.
What is “Sustaining our Future” (SuFu) ?• It is AEGEE Flagship Project for 2008-2009• It is a project aiming for:
– a bit more green AEGEE -> more environmentally responsible (youth) organisations in Europe
– to raise understanding of the connections between culture, society, environment and our own lives
– to inform about the importance of sustainable development
• It is project run by 14 young people from all over Europe
What is a Flagship Project? • Every year AEGEE selects a focus to itself, a project
that all AEGEE bodies can contribute to –
a Flagship Project.
• Since Agora Valletta (spring 2007) a Flagship Project lasts 2 years.
• Flagship Project consists of different activities all around Europe: conferences, study visits, trainings, action days, publications, etc.
• The last 2 Flagship Projects focused on higher education and democracy in Europe
