WHAT IS STEM? STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines science, technology, engineering and mathematics STEM Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate subjects STEM integrates them into a learning paradigm with real-world applications. WHY IS STEM IMPORTANT? STEM EDUCATION IS THE KEY TO THE U.S.'S ECONOMIC FUTURE According to the U.S. Department of Education, only 16 percent of high school students are interested in a STEM career and have proven a proficiency in mathematics. There are not enough people with strong STEM knowledge and skills to fill the demand for jobs in the U.S. For the U.S. to remain the global innovation leader, we must make the most of all of the potential STEM talent this country has to offer that is YOU! The time to start thinking about STEM programs is NOW. What you do now, and in middle school, will prepare you for entry into Cobb Countys STEM programs.
