Also called "Empirical Research," refers to any research based on something that can be
accurately and precisely measured.
e.g. It is possible to discover exactly how many times per second a hummingbird's wings beat and measure the corresponding effects on its physiology (heart rate, temperature, etc.).
Research based on something that is impossible to accurately and precisely
measure.
e.g. Although one certainly can conduct a survey on job satisfaction & conclude that such‐and‐such percent of the respondents were very satisfied with their jobs yet it is not possible to come up with an accurate, standard numerical scale to measure the level of job satisfaction precisely.
Every honest researcher I know admits he's just a professional amateur. He's doing whatever he's doing for the first time. That makes him an amateur. He has sense enough to know that he's going to have a lot of trouble, so that makes him a
professional.
