yourself as some people wrongly assume.

• It is the only time when fasting is compulsory during the entire month for every able Muslim.

• It is also one of the five pillars of Islam.

• Ramadan is intended to increase self -control in all areas, including food, sleeping and use of time.

• Taraweeh are evening prayers, these prayers are not obligatory but highly recommended. Mosque are filled with worshippers who go to attend these prayers.

We will wake up at around 2 am for the pre-dawn meal (or a very early breakfast!)You can eat anything from omelettes to cereal!Morning prayers are said and afterwards most people go back to bed!

The fast is usually broken at sunset. This year starting from around 9.40pm.A typical meal would consist of quite a lot of food and the whole family getting together and being grateful for what we have.(imagine Christmas dinner every night for 1 month!)

Basic Rules of RamadanIn Ramadan there are some basic rules that have to be followed :1. No eating and drinking from

sunrise to sunset.2. Increase in prayers and a

time of self reflection.3. As it is a spiritual month

best behaviour is a must ; you are not permitted to swear, be rude to your elders or any form of bad behaviour.

4. People who are unwell do not have to fast.

5. To be united within the Muslim community.
