Leadership• Leaders help themselves andothers to do the right things.

• They set direction, build aninspiring vision, and createsomething new.

• Leadership is about mapping outwhere you need to go to "win"as a team or an organization;and it is dynamic, exciting, andinspiring.

• Yet, while leaders set thedirection, they must also usemanagement skills to guide theirpeople to the right destination,in a smooth and efficient way.

• According to the idea oftransformational leadership,an effective leader is a personwho does the following:

– Creates an inspiring vision ofthe future.

– Motivates and inspires peopleto engage with that vision.

– Manages delivery of the vision.

– Coaches and builds a team, sothat it is more effective atachieving the vision.

• In business, a vision is arealistic, convincing andattractive depiction ofwhere you want to be inthe future.

• Vision provides direction,sets priorities, and providesa marker, so that you cantell that you've achievedwhat you wanted toachieve.

• To create a vision, leadersfocus on an organization'sstrengths.

• They think about how theirindustry is likely to evolve,and how their competitorsare likely to behave.

• And they test their visionswith appropriate marketresearch, and by assessingkey risks.
