Community Service (CNCS)• Created in 1994• State & National/VISTA/NCCC/Senior Corps• Utilizes members to meet critical community
needs. • Members provide organizations with a variety of
direct service or capacity building activities.

What is KY READY Corps?
• Kentucky Students For Disaster Readiness and Resiliency Corps– A part-time AmeriCorps program– Engages college students/recent grads in support
of local community disaster readiness and resilience initiatives at organizations and institutions that work with or serve vulnerable individuals
– Goal: Reducing social vulnerabilities to disasters
Who are AmeriCorps READY Corps Members?
• College students, 18 years of age or older• Completed 18 hours of academic credit• Enrolled or previously enrolled in academic
programs relevant to the KY READY Corps service work: emergency management, public safety, social service, public health, education
• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, have a valid driver’s license, pass several background checks
AmeriCorps KY READY Corps Members Are:
• Interested in community service• Interested in disaster services • Interested in helping vulnerable individuals
(elderly, disabled, youth, people with English limitations)
• Self-starters interested in professional development and training
• Comfortable with public speaking and learning new skills/tasks
Living Allowance
• Stipend an AmeriCorps member receives while serving
• Currently taxable • NOT a wage or salary• Paid bi-monthly (twice per month) in equal
increments over the service term.

• Vary from site to site• Include direct service and capacity building
assignments• Focus on three key project areas:– Community Outreach and Education– Preparedness Assessments and Plans– Volunteer Coordination and Support

• By Service Slot (300, 450 or 1200)• By minimum number of service hours per
