What is SurveyMonkey?

SurveyMonkey is a service that allows you to create polls and surveys to get valuable data from our audiences.

Creating surveys and polls is a great way to learn what our audiences want.  You can use them to approve ideas for the film, improve upon the existing story of the film but also find out exactly what they look for in a drama/thriller film.

This web-based service is easy to use. You can create many different questions from multiple choices, multiple choices (with multiple answers), rating scale, a form, text boxes and comment boxes.

Page 9: What have you learned from your audience feedback

The dramatic theme with the most votes was Crime followed by Society. Our film is a mixture of both – even though it is about terrorism, it shows a crime being acted and how it affects the society.

Racial prejudice and Terrorism had about the same votes with 10/11. This shows that our target audience doesn’t mind watching a film with those themes.

From this poll it shows that Emotional Issues (death) had the most votes. This was good news for us as our film is saddening because everyone dies at the end.

Which drama/thriller movies do you enjoy watching?

Page 13: What have you learned from your audience feedback

These are other films that has influenced us into making our film and we wanted to which of them they liked watching.

The results shows that Munich was the most popular. (This film was about the Israeli government's secret retaliation attacks after the massacre of Israeli athletes by Black September militant group.) This relates to our film because in our film we also show a terror attack.

Page 15: What have you learned from your audience feedback

Every film production has a specific style and technique, from the result it shows that Lionsgate had the most votes. This again was brilliant news for us because our film is dark with a cold blue tone colour and Lionsgate also have some similarities.

Page 17: What have you learned from your audience feedback

This question was the most important to us because we actually wanted the hoodie guy to have the most votes but in fact it’s 50/50 with both of them having 18% each. For this results we needed to do some changes to our film e.g. dramatic music, suspicious scenes and camera angles and shots.

Page 21: What have you learned from your audience feedback

In this question we wanted to find out what type of thriller film theme they like watching. The most popular was Suspense followed by Mystery – our film has a combination of both because the film has the feeling of suspense and our characters are mysterious.

Climax came third place and this relates to our film as there is a high point in our film where all the questions are hopefully answered.

Audience Feedback

In today’s lesson we had two students in year 10 from our school and asked them to watch our short film and to tell us what they thought of it so far. We decided to have students look at our film because they fitted in with our target audience and we wanted to know whether they understood the storyline and concept of the film since we thought the film was confusing for the younger audience to understand. We wanted to know that information in order for me to do any further editing to the film or any changes I can do to improve it.

Page 23: What have you learned from your audience feedback

First Student - Good Points

She liked the starting credits as it reminded her of CSI (an American crime drama television series)

She liked the fact that it’s in the point of view of the characters because it was unusual and something different.

She could make distinctions between the two characters

She sense the feeling that there would be a twist She was amazed that the film had an actual bus

Page 24: What have you learned from your audience feedback

First Student – Bad points

The sound as sometimes the sounded very uneven and not natural possibly make the sound more levelled and realistic

She was kind of unsure about which character was actually the terrorist maybe we could make it more clearer

As an alternative ending we should leave it suspicious.

We should perhaps insert more dramatic music and sound

Page 25: What have you learned from your audience feedback

Second Student’s Comments

She wasn’t sure as to which character was the terrorist, she thought the hoodie guy was the terrorist because he fits the stereotype

She thought that the sound was unbalanced and uneasy to hear Ending had a good impact as she felt emotional towards the end

of the film Her favourite scene was the message sent to daughter because it

was very touching, student thought the film was very saddening

None of the two students realised that in one scene we had a student sitting on the side of the scene or the scene where there is a reflection of me filming the scene which is positive view for us.

Page 26: What have you learned from your audience feedback

Improvements

We levelled up the sound so that it sounded to natural

To show which character was actually the terrorist we used a wide range of camera shots such as close up and zooming in.

We also worked on the lighting of the film – we made it look darker with touch of blue to give it a cold atmosphere.

We even added music to other background to make it more emotional
