Safe building

In fire-safe buildings, the details determine

the effectiveness. The joint width and the

wall thickness therefore need to be indicated

if fire resistance is specified. By using fire-

resistant Cocoband 6069, fire penetration,

smoke and toxic gases are held back. The

Construction Decree places requirements

on resistance to fire penetration and fire

spreading (WBDBO) between

compartments (also in residential

construction).

Working recommendation

Cocoband 6069

Joint dimension

● Minimum 2 mm.

● Maximum 30 mm.

The fire resistance of Cocoband 6069

depends on:

● the joint width

● the joint depth (wall thickness)

● the type of structure.

Joint dimension l minimum 2 mm l maximum

30 mm. Strip choice: choose the right strip

dimension for each joint width.

For example: joint width 12 mm strip

choice 30/12 or 40/12. 30 and 40 is the

strip width (the deeper the joint fill, the

broader the strip). Place a fire-resistant strip

on both sides of the wall. Wall thickness: 100

mm. Joint depth 80 mm filled.

● Strip +10° C to +25° C.

Substrates

● The substrates should be free of dust

and grease.

Working

The compression factor dictates the

functional requirements for the joint sealing.

This is the factor with which the maximum

joint width is multiplied. Whenever fire

resistance is required, this means a

compression factor of 5x the joint width (=

strip thickness in expanded form). The

minimum joint depth (= strip width) is 20 mm

for joints up to ≤ 10 mm and 30 mm for larger

joints.

● The strip can be placed in the joint directly from the roll.

● Corners and splices need to be

applied carefully.

● Cocoband 6069 should never be

drawn around a corner.

● Always cut splice connections and

butt the strip with excess length.

NEN 6069 experimental determination of the

fire resistance of building parts.

In determining fire resistance, the behavior

needs to be determined by means of one or

more specimens under the influence of

heating according to standardized fire

conditions,

illbruck Sealant Systems B.V. produces,

besides Cocoband 6069, also a number of fire-

resistant joint sealant systems per NEN 6069.
