What Are You Building On?

still stands, will get his pay.

What Are You Building On?

One of the most important things to any building is the foundation on which it is built.

As you are building your spiritual house of faith, and hope for the future, what kind of foundation are you building on?

Page 3: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

Some build their faith on what they have seen and heard.

They go to a meeting where there seem to be many miracles taking place. They stand and weep as they hear the testimonies of those who claim their healing. They believe that God is real.

Is this enough to keep us or is just a building block for our foundation?

What Are You Building On?

Others build their house of faith on feelings. The Mormons are encouraged to seek a burning heart experience to know whether or not the book of the Mormon is the true word of God. They will testify of the burning heart experience. Others will tell of exotic sensations or experiences with angels, maybe some vision or dream.

Is this a strong enough foundation for in our Christian walks?

What Are You Building On?

How do we make sure we our building on a sure foundation?

Page 6: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

I Corin. 3:9-16-Be careful how your build your foundation.

Let relationship and walk with God be based on God’s word, not your opinion or the opinions of others.

Our foundation should not be based on our intellect or past experiences but on Christ and His word.

Page 7: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On? More specifically and in context, Jesus is

talking about those who are building their hopes on the false doctrines taught by the false prophets.

Those who seek to broaden the way to heaven.

They were teaching that it really doesn't matter what you believe, so long as you are sincere, that all roads lead to heaven.

They teach that there are other paths than Jesus.

What Are You Building On?

Having a solid foundation doesn’t happen just from our testimony. The person who testified of their healing from cancer may also experience financial difficulties. What happens to their faith then?

What happens when our Christian foundation is just based on healing. What happens when God doesn’t heal us as fast as we think He should. What happens to our foundation?

What Are You Building On?

Luke: 6:46-Why call Him Lord-Won’t do what He says. You know what His word says but neglect to do it.

Let God’s word be so important us that we follow what He says.

We need to be doers of His word not only a hearer of His word to obtain all God has for us.

Calling Jesus Lord is an empty statement if we never make a choice to follow the Word of God and allow Him to make difference in our lives.

What Are You Building On?

THE SURE FOUNDATION IS THE WORD OF GOD THAT TEACHES US TO TRUST FULLY IN JESUS CHRIST.

Page 11: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

Paul tells us that Christ is that Rock. When Peter said, "Thou art the Christ, the

Son of the living God," Jesus said, "Upon this Rock, I will build My church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

Paul wrote:1 Corin. 3:11 “For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

On Christ the solid Rock we stand, all other ground is sinking sand.

Page 12: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

What foundation you build on is important Don’t build on emotions. Why because feeling

change. Our foundations should not be based on

experiences, testimonies or the life of others. It should not be based on church

membership, baptism and/or church activities.

You can’t slide on the relationship of your parents/grandmother or good works, self-esteem, possession, self-determination to say you have a walk with God.

Page 13: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SURE FOUNDATION. The storms and testing are going to come. Sooner or later your faith will be put to the

test. You will face circumstances and situations

for which you will have no answer. If your foundation is based on an emotional

experience of great excitement and joy, it will come crashing down.

Page 14: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

You don’t want to wait until you are in the middle of your storm to find out that you built your hope on something that will fail.

Page 15: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On? Phil. 2:12-Work out your soul salvation with fear

and tremble- it takes work, working the word, practicing what he says.

Luke 6:43-45-You know someone by their fruits. Sometimes won’t know what you will produce or how you will respond until go through a situation.

What do you produce through your storm-strength, hope, peace or fear, anxiety, worry, hate etc.?

Actions not words determine where you really are in your walk with Christ.

Page 16: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

Luke 6: 46-49:Storms will come whether you build your foundation on Christ or your circumstances, fears, money, relationships, position, job.

Any other foundation you build on will fail. If your foundation has been built on some

miraculous work of God, now that it seems God is silent and has not answered your cries, your house will be devastated.

Page 17: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On? Luke 6:48-49-Must dig deep. Not just

speak it. Must not only read the word the word but also study the word. He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. It takes something on our part.

Can’t just speak the word-ex. God says to forgive and you refuse to forgive your brother or sister-We need to practice what we speak and preach.

Page 18: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On? Stand on His promises His word. Listen

and follow the things he’s told us to do-forgive, love your enemy, be kind to one another, seek Him first etc.

Eph. 5:8-13-Separate yourself from that which would hinder you from practicing the right things

Evil communication corrupts good manners-ex. some that is always negative and have nothing good to say to you or about you.

Separate your self. Let Christ be your light. Let Him instruct you in the direction you should go.

Page 19: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On? Eph. 5:14-15-Awake, You Who Sleep-It been

said you can sing, walk, talk, hear and think when we are asleep-but what we do in our sleep doesn’t always profit us.

In our sleep we are not thinking about putting God first in our lives, loving our enemies, forgiving those that despitefully use us.

God wants us fully enlightened by His word and not be ruled or controlled by addictions, habits, hate, anger etc.

Eph. 5:16- when we are awakened we can walk circumspectly- carefully, wisely not foolishly.

What Are You Building On?

We can “Redeem the Time”-Means make the most of our opportunities in our relationship with Christ.

You have to take the time to have your own person experience with Christ. Study the bible and practically apply the word.

He has given us His word. Acknowledge Him in all your ways and let Him direct you.

Pray, don’t forsake the fellowship of the people of God

Page 21: What Are You Building On? Then every workman who has built on the foundation with the right materials, and whose work still stands, will get his pay. I.

What Are You Building On?

Be doers not only hearers of His word. No one is immune to disappointments

Storms-trials, troubles, situations will come regardless of the foundation you build on.

God doesn’t want us to lose out on what He has for us. Let your house survive the storm- be doers of His word.
