Improving the Performance of Waste Diversion Schemes: A Good Practice Guide for Local Authorities 158

Annex 1: Library of Survey QuestionsThis annex contains a series of questions that have been used in previous surveys and shown to provide useful information. You should aim to use these questions if they are appropriate to your survey rather than inventing new ones that may or may not work.

IntroductionQuestions on the following subjects are included in this annex:

1. Understanding household behaviour page 1592. Committed recycler page 1593. Awareness page 1604. Containers page 1625. Behaviour page 1636. Getting improvements page 1687. Satisfaction page 1688. Attitudes page 1719. Promotional activities page 17410. Questions to ask at recycling sites/HWRCspage 17411. Waste minimisation general page 18412. Washable nappies page 18513. Home composting page 18914. Socio-demographic questions page 193

Where square brackets appear, you should replace the wording with something relevant for your local authority.

Be aware that some of these questions will work more effectively in a self-completion questionnaire.Where this is the case it is mentioned before the relevant question.

Annex 1: Library of Survey Questions

1. Understanding household behaviourThese questions can also be used to determine who would be the best person in the household to take part in the survey as well as gaining an understanding of how households organise themselves.

This is a very useful measure of change as a result of new infrastructure or awareness campaigns. It is compulsory under certain circumstances if you received funding from WRAP.
