Valley Cottage Library will be honored in November to receive the 2016 Keep Rockland Beautiful “Beautification Award” for our environmentally smart and beautifully landscaped parking lot. Completed in 2011, the parking lot employs bioswales and a rain garden filled with plants whose roots slow down and treat storm water runoff before penetrating into the soil and recharging the ground water. Additionally, many native plants were used to en- courage self-seeding and to provide food for birds and insects. Valley Cottage Library will again serve as a polling place for this year’s primary and general elections. Election districts 8, 17, 43, 51 and 64 will vote here. If you are unsure of which district you reside in or if you are registered to vote, please check with the Rockland County Board of Elections, 845-638-5172. The Primary Election is September 13 and the General Election is November 8. The Library will be open for service both days from 6am-9pm. TED WILLIAMS & AMERICAN CULTURE Thursday, Sept. 29 from 7-8:15pm Join us on the 75th anniver- sary of Ted Williams’ 1941 record-setting season. He is one of the greatest hitters in baseball history even though his career was interrupted twice during two wars. Rick Feingold presented this program at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. He has written for the Boston Herald and Christian Science Monitor. Inner Spirit Art Fridays from 10:30am-12pm A series of workshops in art experimenta- tion with Christine Penksa. The election will take place at the Annual Associa- tion Meeting scheduled for January 18, 2017.
